HK G36C [v1]
About this creation

Please at least rate my G36C. Thanks.

For those of you who may not know, I always print out a full scale photograph of the real gun (I check the dimensions) and overlay my creations on top to check for size and position issues. [photo of the printout coming soon]

Inspired by Ben Walters' Heckler and Koch G36C], I decided to build it, and this gun has become my recent favorite...even more so than my Steyr AUG/USR.

The barrel is removable and can be replaced with longer or shorter barrels. The inside portion that you don't see is hollowed out to the approximate size of a 5.56 x 45mm NATO slug. Of course, it's not exact, because LEGO bricks limit precise replication.

The gas piston in the front is visible, as in the real gun. The front lobe is a terrible remake of the real thing. That could use improvement.

I have used the magazine curve idea that George Bytenskiy used on his Kalashnikov AK-47. Robert Peele has expressed his concerns on the idea of the curve and I think he has a good point, but I don't have the bricks necessary to curve it otherwise.

The magazine is also removable. There is no magazine catch/release mechanism because I ran out of ideas for fitting my existing one on my Steyr AUG/USR into a smaller space. I would have built another mechanism, of course.

The stock, like the one on Ben Walters', folds, but this one locks in the folded position. I'm not sure if his does the same. When unfolded, three 1/2L Technic Pins snap the stock to help keep it open. I did not incorporated the real lock because it was too fragile and I had no idea how to make it. However, I did include the piece that represents this lock, which juts out visibly when the stock is folded.

I angled the pistol grip just right, but it's a bit wavy. I don't have many high angled slope bircks. The trigger guard takes a dip away from the pistol grip and moves upward just a little bit, just like on the real gun. The trigger is very unusual and primitive. I want to replace it with something better.

I had trouble with the front sight. This is the best I can do for now. I'm fresh out of ideas for a realistic front sight. I got the rear sight down pretty well.

A point I included on this gun, which gets me really excited, is the charging handle. This not only operates by moving back and forth, it also moves the ejector slider inside the gun. The really big bonus is that that ejector slider ejects real 5.56 x 45mm ammunition! Watch the videos [1 and 2] in my Brickshelf folder to see the action.

The only part of this gun that is not LEGO is the selector swicth area image. I really wanted to show the outlined slugs on the ambidextrious selector switch. So, I recreated it using reference pictures and Microsoft PhotoDraw and printed it out. I adhered it to the gun with precision and cleanliness.

The selector swith itself took a while to get it to work on both sides of the gun at the same time, but I got it. A Technic Rod connects the two switches, which are very fragile, including the connections between the switches and the rod, and allows the switches to move to simulate changing from safe to semi-automatic to fully automatic.

I understand that there is still much to do with this creation, but I think this version is worthy of a MOCpages page. Please, tell me what I can do to improve if you see anything that needs improvement. I appreciate all the help I can get. Thanks.

This gun is dedicated to Ben Walters for his inspiration and kindness towards my suggestions. Good luck with the contest, Ben!

Awsome. Just awsome. As a fan of H&K weapons and Lego, I can't wait until you get those instructions down. Easy 5/5.

wow, this is got to be one of the best g36's on the net, the functionality is great, though there must be critique, the handel is angled right, though seems a bit thin compared to the clip, barrel is a bit short, the slant from the stock to the carrying handle is not gradual enough, and there seems to be some stuff inside the carrying handle area, where there should only be a l-gray line, otherwwise, great job, so now there are 3 g36's on the net, yours, ben's, and mine, which is the worst...

Wow. The similarities between our guns is incredible. Thanks to your wonderful help, I envisioned the same weapon as you! Mine may not eject actual rounds, but it has almost all of the functions of the actual gun (other than firing of course). I cannot come up with a way to lock the stock realistically either, but I will keep working on that. My front sight is pretty sad looking too. It is basically a smooth 1x2 brick with a stud in the middle in front of your rear sight piece. I cannot re-create an accurate rear sight without using the same piece, so its a little confusing. You have done my favorite gun of all time justice with this AWESOME version. Thank you for all your kind inspiration, and time you spent helping me perfect this gun. Thank you. PS, Can you review mine and tell me if im missing anything since the contest is only about a month off, I am going to make a few adjustments. And by the way Foxkupo, yours isnt bad, its just 2 studs wide. Feel free to take any ideas off of mine and use them in a new version that you might make. Just give me credit please!

Hey lawrence great gun, could you check out my mocs especialy the Glock 17 and LR-300. BTW i was just wondering when you might start building the HK417. I really like the look of that gun with the Schmidt & Bender Short Dot scope. I think i might try it soon.
