In the time after the Clone Wars, Emperor Palpatine instructed engineers to make a ship that could send undetected probes to every known planet in the galaxy to see if any Jedi survived the Great Purge. The result was a sleek and fast starship, that was easy to fly and make and costed very little. The finished product was named, the I-8 Probe Dropship!
The right side of the ship. Next to one of the vents, is the coloring of this Probe Dropship's squadron, White-and-Red Squadron.
The backside of the ship. To ensure no one saw the ship as it deployed the probe, it has extra rocket boosters in the back. Also to deploy the probe, you would pull the stick in between the boosters out, and the probe would fall.
The left side of the ship.
An interior view of the cockpit. Inside, there is a joystick, an X-Wing control panel, and a gun, in case of emergency landing and defending.
Some rear detailing. The I-8 requires many air vents to cool down the boosters, as they can easily overheat.
The probe dropping sequence. I put together a small vignette to show this.
1)The ship fly's, and starts to slowly descend.
2)The pilot then presses the joystick down and an EMP (Electro-Magnetic Pulse) missile lands and disables all sensors from scanning.
3)The ship then dangerously skims the ground and deploys the probe when the pilot pulls the joystick up. Now that all scanners are temporarily disabled, the droid is given time to power up and activate it's own scanner-jamming system.
4)The ship then gains altitude then starts the boosters, as not to leave scorch marks on the ground. Mission complete.
The bottom side of the ship. There is the axle you can press to launch the missile, and you can see the probe, which has a nice and comfortable fit.
Now some pictures of the probe.
Some arms. Different coloring of the shoulders help factory workers assemble it.
