Variable Geometry Tank
Variable Geometry Tank--built for the Exo Force building contest.
About this creation
I built this Variable Geometry Tank for the Exo Force building contest.

The idea of a mech with tank tread legs is nothing new in Lego. Mark Neumann and Ryan Wood have built their versions, among others. TLG even made one, with the Exo Force Mobile Defense Tank.

But this is my first, and I've always wanted to build one. That, plus I wanted to make use of the tank treads I got in the Dino Attack tank set.

Also, mad props to Paul Brassington for the rifle design which I modified for the two ground troopers.

It still stresses me out to be using the custom sticker applications. With the bricks, I build and re-build every component several times until I'm reasonably satisfied, but when applying the stickers, you only have one shot to get it right. Plus you can really only use a sticker one time.

Oh, you thought the treads actually moved? Ahahahahaha! Wrong. Once again, I sacrifice playability for aesthetics.

Oh, you thought there wasn't a working access hatch? Ahahahahah! Wrong. Once again, I sacrifice aesthetics for playability.

I was really pleased with the way the upper beam cannon turned out, with that little Racers piece mounted on the top.

Many Artic Alpha Team graphics sacrificed themselves to the almighty Brasso to bring you this MOC.

I got a second copy of the Droid Tri-Fighter set for Christmas, and I thought "when am I ever going to use all these sand blue click hinges?" Well, this MOC uses all but two of them.

The front/back tilt angle of the main tank body is accomplished by mounting the entire top to the "waist" turntable by a jumper-plate-to-technic-hole connection on either side. Yep, just two studs connect the entire top section, and that's actually one of the stronger joints in the model.

"Dude, these gunz are wicked heavy."
"Who are you calling 'dude', I'm a girl."
"No you're not, dude."
"Dangit, these anime hairstyles and facial features are so androgynous, I get all confused."

awesome! the color scheme is excellent, the shape and concept are great, nobody cares about the tracks ...they actually didint run well on the mobile defence tank and my arctic tractors' twin track are completely immobile even though they are mounted on the right wheels... Great Moc anyway!

Great use of treads! This gives the Exo-Force line some justice. Nice work.

One of the best tanks I've ever seen. I'm loving the cockpit, and the weapons, especially that turret. Very well done.
