6-8-4 Steam Locomotive
This train is my largist and hardist build ever. The whole thing has been just one problem after the other. I have worked over a year and a half on it and it still isn't done.
About this creation
First Edition:
This is the first edition of my LEGO 6-8-4 steam locomotive, (I have since modified it a lot, (those pictures should be up too). The first edition took a week to build, working all my spare time. The train is massive 10 wide, 11 in some places, but can still go around corners just fine. The front truck and middle wheels are BigBenBricks wheels and the back truck is just standard 9V motor unit. The train is not based on any real train except the cab which is modeled after the Flying Scotsman.

Second Edition:
Added a coal tender, rebuilt the pistons, (sorry no pics of the second edition).

Third Edition:
The third edition is the newest edition of the train, I added yellow rivets to the coal tender and have finally gotten most of the bugs out of the locomotive. Most of the bugs where in the piston design which finally, after rebuilding like 20 times, no longer jam up. Now the only problem is they donít look right. The Train continues to be a work in progress, I have worked over a year and a half and it still isnít done. I hope to get the locomotive to look right and make train cars for it soon.

Updated Pics, these are better quality, although some are still a little blury. I'm not the best photographer and I have a really old camra, sorry:

See, it's not vary pritty, but this train can still make the tight LEGO corners.

The Future:
I want to re-build the pistons, again (like the 20th time), and buy the train cars I made for it off LEGO Digital Designer. (They are $200 each so it might be a wile).

The NEW prototype pistons are here!
These are the prototype pistons I built on 1/24/10, I thought up the disigns for them that day at school. it took me two and a half hours to make them but I'm happy to say the look and work 3 times better than any of my previus disigns. I am vary happy with how they look, I've been working on disigns for I wile and I think this one is the winner. So far I only have the right pistons and I didn't even have all the right colers for those. I'm planing a big brick order so after that I will build the final (hopefully) vertion of the pistons (basicly the same as the prototype just with better colors).

I have now built both pistons, although a few parts are not the right colors. They have been thoroly tested and work well. Although I do want to add a small peice of tape on one part because it jigles out of place after a wile (only on one side though, strange). I will try and add new pics soon, and if I can fugure out how to, a video of it running.

Quoting Nick White Fantastic train!! Very cool retro look!!
Thanks, I really need to upload some new pictures. the 2011 MOCpages crash lost them and my computer that had them died about the same time. I think I will probably just make a whole new page, so much has changed since the last version (it runs with no problems now!) Hopefully I can upload a video of it running too!

Quoting Weegee Malleo I can't see any of the pictures.
Yeah, sorry about that. When MOCpages crashed a while ago, they went missing, most got put back up but some still haven't been. At this point I need to just re-upload them, but with the end of senior year, I just don't have the time.

Quoting Martijn Kaat excellent job you did there!
Thanks! I wish MOC pages would fix all the pictures I have on this, they are on a computer that no longer works so they are hard to put back up. After I graduate in a few weeks I hope to take some more pics and maybe a running video.

This is absolutely stunning, excellent detail and the piston mech is great. This looks like a real labour of love. Love the cab. My 4 yr old son is also very impressed :). Thanks for your comments on my mini airwolf I can't wait to see yours.

while the the train sits well it is a little large and it wood look better with more compete colour scheme will make the loco look even better. i like the pistons and drive gear and it one of the most complicated I've seen. how ever the tender could come closer to the cab of the loco to make it look more life like. but all up I like this loco's design.
