Construction of a tavern to be set in a forest near a large town known for it's vast market. It is detailed as to have a more classic Lego® look then a very realistic one. More pictures will be added as the tavern is built further. If it turns out as well as I originally imagined, then it may be entered into the Classic Castle contest. (Hopefully finished by Contest VIII) The exterior of the building and the stable will be worked on next.
12/31/10 night - 1/1/11 morning
Staircase, and some of the cellar:
Entrance to smuggler's tunnel:
Unfinished bank of a river:
Duplos (underneath) make great fillers, as do brightly colored bricks (for this MOC at least.)
1/1/11 night (Images aren't great in the light of a lamp. Sorry!)
Bridge in progress:
Fallen tree trunks as a crude bridge:
Reworked river entrance to smuggler's tunnel:
Watch tower (Not permanent location):
A tree (One of my favorite parts so far along with the tunnel, but very fragile) :
The first part of the actual tavern (Outcrop) :
Another image of the smuggler's tunnel:
1/2/11 Morning (Cheers to daylight, which makes every photo look better!)
Deconstruction- realized that there was too little space to build and had to carefully deconstruct some of the back wall (to save gray bricks) and added 16 more studs of width to the plateau. More space will need to be added on one side to have enough room for the stable. The bridge has not come along any farther yet. (I hate building bridges!) The tower has been moved out of the scene for now as the tavern begins to be built. The second story shall be timber.
Added lighting to smuggler's tunnel:
Location of light (Tried to hide it best I could) :
Top-down view after added space (Everything left of the cellar) :
Hinge added to outcrop roof to make it more stable. Another tree has been added along with some ground foliage. The bridge has been temporarily removed until I can figure out a better design. A rocky hill is in the making, on which the watch tower will sit. The window interiors looked really bad so I decided to build a different wall and simply have fake windows on the exterior.
Another tree, with the first in the background:
The beginning of the interior wall:
1/5/11 Night :(
Tried to get better photos with a desk lamp but it reflects too much (Just like a camera flash, but not as bad.) The actual tavern has made almost no progress. Even more space has been added though! The first bridge that I've built and liked is finally constructed, although it is not the original stone bridge which is yet to be built. More trees have been added, one of them being 6054-1 Forestmen's Hideout. It had more leaves added, (It was always too sparse.) a brown roof, (To blend better) and still can be opened. (First half on baseplate, second half on flat tiles.) I have created soldiers who could be used for many factions and Robin Hood has gotten a different shirt. (Knight's Kingdom 2000 scale-mail)
Signs to be placed in front of the main stone bridge.
Another view of the bridge (trying to show the broken up planks) :
Updated 6054-1 and third tree:
Side view of bridge:
Archer in watchtower (Which is on top of the rocky hill) :
