AEGAKS-APB 001K D-Wh 'Amaterasu Kai'
The Commander type D-Frame AEGAKS. It is also equipped with the SHINIGAMI System.
About this creation
AEGAKS-APB-001K D-Wh ĎAmaterasu Kaií

This is the AEGAKS-APB Commander type Unit 1, Codenamed ĎAmaterasuí. This is the Amaterasu Kai, a close range variant of the Amaterasu. It only differs in weaponry and some armor, the original Amaterasu sports nearly the same weaponry as the Susano. The Kai is a close range fighter, equipped with a pair of heavy Beam Swords, a pair of throwing blades attached to the arms, and a shortened standard AEGAKS rifle. The rifle shares some characteristics with the Susanoís guns, like the VAT (Variable Ammunition Type) System. Like most S-Frames, the Amaterasu and the Amaterasu Kai are equipped with the SHINIGAMI System. The name Amaterasu is derived from the name of the Japanese Sun goddess, in keeping with the tradition started with the Shinigami prototype.

At first glance, Amaterasu Kai looks like a simple color swap of the MP D-Type, ĎSusanoí, and truth be told, that is precisely what the standard Amaterasu unit is, but a closer look reveals slight differences in the armor, most notably on the outer forearms. Also, due to the different construction, the Amaterasu Kai cannot utilize the cooling fins on its arms for extreme close range combat. As you can see here, the Amaterasu Kai also lacks the back- mounted weapons rack of the Susano, but it is equipped with larger, heavier swords and throwing blades to make up for its ranged combat deficiencies.

It is easy to see in this picture how the arm differs from its brother unit, the armor is elongated far beyond the joint and it is sharpened to a razor edge. Because of this, Amaterasu Kai pilots are trained in a unique, unnamed martial art that utilizes all the advantages of this particular unit. The elongated armor can also be used as a shield. You can also see one of the throwing blades in its arm mounted sheath, waiting to be drawn.

If one or both of the heavy sabers are damaged, then combat can still be carried out using the throwing blades. The blades are specially treated to withstand enormous strain, and they can also be used as a main gauche, which is a sort of parrying dagger. The blades are capable of punching through low-level energy shielding, such as might be found on smaller enemies, by generating their own sort of shield, which cancels out the enemy shields. This function is powered by small energy cells in the hilts, but it is only good for about a minute before the battery dies.

While the cooling fins canít be utilized as swords, they are able to function in a limited capacity as shields. Using them in this manner usually happens out of desperation, to block an attack that would otherwise prove crippling or fatal to the pilot or frame. The fins are made differently from the fins on the other D-Types; they are far denser and less susceptible to damage.

Here is the SHINIGAMI System core. You can see the hardpoints where a weapons rack could be mounted, but this particular unit doesnít have one, because the pilot requested more melee weapons as opposed to ranged ones to suit his fighting style. You can also see the hilts of the heavy beam sabers attached to the Ďwingí armor on the thighs.

SHINIGAMI is an acronym which stands for:
Secondary
Hyperactive
Intrinsic
Neural
Interface
Gyroidal
Attack
Maneuver
Initiator
The way the system works is: Basically, the pilot activates their secondary Neural Uplink, providing a direct access between the unitís main computer system and the pilotís mind, unlocking the full abilities of the Neural Trace system, including the head, because the SHINIGAMI System requires the sheer processing power of the Human brain in order to perform the complex equations that come with fracturing the crystal rod that makes up the core of the Drive Booster unit. The crystal rod contains enough energy to power a D-type frame for several months, so when it shatters, all of that energy is released at once, quadrupling the weapon and motion systems output for about fifteen minutes. The rod actually releases more energy, but fifteen minutes is about the maximum amount of time that the pilot can handle, and after about twenty minutes, the D-Type frame will actually explode from within, destroying or severely damaging anything within about a half-mile radius, as well as completely destroying the unit. A beneficial side effect of this system is that it will completely recharge the main and auxiliary power cells. The crystal rod is completely used up once the system is activated so it must be replaced after use. The prohibitive cost of the core of the booster unit consequently means that there are very few SHINIGAMI equipped mecha. The Amaterasu is one of three currently produced mecha that has the system, along with the Susano, and the Shinigami prototype. All of the cooling fins must be open when the system is activated, or the Frame will melt. In order to activate the SHINIGAMI system, the pilot has to verbally disable the limiter and manually input a code word of his choice, one for each of the four levels of the SHINIGAMI system. Levels one through three increase the output of the unit exponentially, but level four is a desperation move that funnels all the generated power through the frame at once, burning out the circuits and killing the pilot nine times out of ten. The one time that it didnít kill the pilot, it left him catatonic, so level four is a real method of last resort.

SHINIGAMI core activated with cooling fins open. You can see that it also lacks the boosters of the Susano and standard Amaterasu, which is because the Amaterasu Kai is designed to take more damage than its mass produced siblings, it needed as much armor as the engineers could fit it with, sacrificing mobility for protection. The added armor in the thigh Ďwingsí also increases the weight, making it harder for the Kai to be knocked over by enemy attacks or concussion missiles.

Here is the Amaterasu Kaiís frame without the head, core, power cell, and Pilot Block. The frame is a near-exact copy of the Susano, but with the aforementioned changes in the arms, the lack of boosters in the thighs, and the aesthetic changes to the rest of the armor.

A size comparison of the Amaterasuís head and pilot block. The head actually holds the Amaterasuís other ranged weapon, a high- powered particle beam that can be emitted from the eye. This weapon can only be fired once every few minutes before it needs to recharge, but it can cut through most robot units. The Kai, like most other D-types, has a team of three pilots and almost a dozen mechanics to maximize the effectiveness of these powerful mecha.

This is the current pilot of the Amaterasu, Tristan Ventu. He is a Captain in the NAARA and second in command of the Shinigami Squad. The Shinigami Squad is one of the few American AEGAKS teams that escaped the destruction of the main American base in the Rocky Mountains. The Shinigami Squad consists of a single Amaterasu Kai, a standard Amaterasu unit, a Susano unit, the R-Type frame prototype codenamed ĎArthasí, a standard M-Type frame codenamed 'Durandal', and the original Shinigami prototype. NAARA stands for North American Anti Robot Army. Tristan Joined the NAARA when his home was destroyed by a robot attack, killing most of his family. With nowhere left to go, he joined the army, proving himself a capable pilot and earning a promotion to the rank of Captain. Shortly afterward, the Main American base was destroyed and the Shinigami Squad barely escaped, flying to Sentai Mountain to join the fight against the original Robot rebellion leaders.

**Update**

I have added a flight unit similar to the one found on my Pharaoh mech, Might get around to taking pictures, but not for a while.

Creatorís Notes
This was my second AEGAKS type build, and it has also been around, in one shape or another, for a few months. The excuses are the same as they were for the Susano. The Rifle is a modified Standard AEGAKS rifle, and the credit for it, the head unit, and the inspiration behind the frame and pilot block goes to Jason Dominguez. If you like my creations, make sure you check out his and all the others in the Project AEGAKS group.

Great build--I especially like the use of the clear blades. Very innovative. The power core is great looking, and I like the modularity. These look to me like heavier combat AEGAKS due to the fully armored cockpit blocks (which is long overdue, if you ask me. I've never been a huge fan of having nothing but a big window in between you and death). Great work.

Quoting Jason Dominguez I am very impressed. This is very much how I imagined an American made AEGAKS. Your build is top notch, and your description is spectacular. You have your own subfaction to plan now. I would very make it an official part of the story.
Minus the Japanese name though, right? haha jk Concerning the NAARA, I said in the Amaterasu Kai's description that the main American base was destroyed along with most of the American AEGAKS units. The Shinigami Squad was one of a very small number of squads that escaped. I suppose that there are still a few small groups left in the Rockies, battling the robots to the last man though.... Interesting thought. I might write something about that and put it into the factions board. Thanks for taking the time to comment, I plan to have the Shinigami prototype up sometime tomorrow afternoon.

Quoting CEO Luiz Camargo Wow, this one is even better than Susano! Susano was pretty cool but this one rocks. I loved the feet and color scheme, the weapons are very nice too. I noticed that the pilot block doesn't have a hinge to open, It's hold by friction?
The pilot block does have a hinge. It's kinda hard to see, because of those plates but it is there. On another, totally unrelated note, if you thought this was cool, then watch for the AEGAKS-APB 000P S-Bk 'Shinigami'. It is the most recently built S-Type frame, but canonically it would be the prototype. I'll get to work on writing it either tonight or tomorrow. Also, Thanks for the comment and compliments.
