This is a tank I built based on the Howe and Howe Ripsaw. It uses 2 XL motors to drive, each going through a set of knob wheels and a 20-to-12 tooth gear train. Sorry about the photo quality, I was using my phone.
About this creation
Here is a side view, showing the battery box, motors, and reciever. Each side has 3 wheels on the bottom, and a grey shock attached to each. You can only see the first arm, which is in yellow.
Here is the first shot that was supposed to show the suspension working. The rear shock is actually about halfway compressed, but again, horrible lighting doesn't allow much to be seen.
A side view showing the suspension in action. It can climb over a descent height, as long as it is getting traction.
And here is Buffy the kitty inspecting the machine.
I'm fairly pleased with the build, with the traction and ability to climb heights being the only areas it is lacking. It is still relatively fast, and even though the tracks tend to be loose, I've only dropped a track once. That was while doing a donut on carpet, and the track moving in reverse decided to come off. Soon to be destroyed, I already am building my next tracked vehicle.
