New York City Subway
About this creation
Whenever one visits New York, they'll observe the skyscrapers that appear to embrace the heavens, experience the perpetual honking, as well as the hot dogs...

Then there's also the subway.

The New York City Subway currently ranks as the fifth busiest mass transit system in the entire world, and is the busiest in the western hemisphere.

This particular station is Fulton Street, located in the Financial District of Manhattan. I did not make this to be an exact replica; instead I tried to mimic the general atmosphere of the subway by incorporating common elements of the entire transportation network.

New York consists of two cities - the sprawling metropolis aboveground, and then the hustle and bustle of the subway right underneath.

Here we have an uptown-bound 5 train.

Some stations will have a partisan like this dividing up the two tracks, with a platform located on each side.

Often, rats can be found on the tracks foraging for food. They serve as great distractions for passengers waiting for the next train to arrive.

The entire system is electrified - the third rail courses with about 650 volts of electricity.

The surface street, station entrance and the side walls can be removed to view inside the station.

In the past, the MTA (Metropolitan Transportation Authority) would issue subway tokens for rides, but today MetroCards are dispensed at automated vending machines.

Gates like these can be found for maintenance workers to use, without having to go through the turnstiles.

Sliding a MetroCard will open the turnstile, leading to the platform.

"Watch the gap!

R142 Subway Car

The R142 NYC Subway car built by Bombardier Transportation is one of the newest additions to the subway fleet.

These cars do not exhibit the typical colored bullet with the train's letter or number designation. Instead, they have an LED-lit sign located on the front.

The R142 was also the first NYC model to have automated messages, like "Stand clear of the closing doors please!"

Daily Business

The NYC subway delivers on average over 10 million rides a week. While it has its problems, it still serves as an iconic part of the Big Apple.

"Thank you for riding with MTA New York City Transit!"

This is amazing. I just visited NYC for the first time. I am 7 years old and really want a Lego subway now. Can you share how you built it or/and what kind of pieces I should buy? Thanks!

Absolutely phenomenal. The detail is spot on with everything, and the building of it perfectly executed. Love the stickers and how easily it is to access the station.

Incredible vignette! Incredible photography! Throughout your series, all I could think was "Beemp-Boomp: Stand clear of the closing doors please."

This looks a lot like the one in London - all that's missing is the graffiti.. Very well built and detailed and you've done a great job on the subway car.

Very neatly done. Great details everywhere. Regarding the competition, we can start carrying on our conversations on the new team group, but I did want to make sure you got this forwarded to you as quickly as possible: we have 1 spot left and have told the others invited we want to complete our team quickly. Whoever responds first will be in. I see no reason your friend can't have a shot at that. Get him to sign up quickly and then let us know he is ready. Don't wait!

Extremely impressive, it reminds me of the subways for sure. Would you be interested in being in my MOC-athalon team? If so, could you mention that here -
