A new twist on an old classic
About this creation
20 years ago, while developing the perfect robot to enforce public safety, an organization discusses and exchanges ideas on its design and functionality. "It should be designed to fight any crime, but it should appear friendly to children." Says one employee. "Great idea," says their boss, who decides to make "design" the main focus in their meeting, "but what do children like?" "Animals!" replies the only lady amongst them loudly, "A recent poll states that 99% of female children 1-12 choose ponies as their favorite animal." "Boys also like dogs, tigers, and elephants." Another employee interrupts. "Overall, it'll need to look happy giving the general audience a sense of security as well as throw off bank robbers and such." The boss ecstatically writes everything down and ends the meeting with "I LOVE it! Let's take this to engineering department right now!"

After a few weeks, under various experiments and changes, the project was a total failure in both functionality and design. The robots were cute but at the same time very unsettling due to its glitchy, violent programming. 20 years later, the Hero Factory is now an established, successful, international company in manufacturing robots designed to fight crimes of most kinds.

During that time, Meltdown infiltrates their HQ leaking his radioactive fluid all over the place. While blasting through different sectors, the fight is taken next to an old storage room, containing that very first prototype ever developed, alongside an old Hero Core reject. Before the Heroes end the fight, a full blast of radioactive liquid is drenched all over the prototype and the hero core, melting and mutating both into a single entity. In a fit of rage and obliviousness, the prototype lands blows on Meltdown and runs away never to be seen or even sensed under radar by the heroes again. On rare occasions it is reported playing in playgrounds with children around the world, picking flowers, and wailing on villains with nearby objects under a blind influence of justice. In combat, it is agile and sees attacks in all directions making it rare for any villain to lay a finger on it, though it is not very smart and is prone to anger when provoked after a while.

I've noticed for a while that of all the pieces in my Sterilite box, the old Basic face bricks have had less love as time went by. Gone are the days I build houses and animals when I could just have animal minifigs and build something else. I decided to find some use whenever I could but never did get an idea. When I passed by the local Lego Store last week, I noticed that there was now a new Pick-A-Brick section for Hero Factory.

Despite it just being a source for extra armor pieces and helmet accessories, I noticed the abundance of extra arm/leg joints and got me a cupful right away and decided these are what I will use today. So using what I could dig up, I ended up making this under a BASIC theme using the face bricks and BASIC bricks as much as possible. It ain't pretty but I just wanted to use those bricks again for something...also an excuse to use the extra joints I bought.
