Finally, after a few months of buying bricks, building and eventually photographing, it is done... My version of Alkmaar Central Station
About this creation

The orinal (not so blue) blueprints of the building back from 1864... So I did use "Instructions" for this one ;)

Overview of the building, with the totally renewed market in front of it!

Side view with the front of the Dutch "Koploper" Train.
Some facade pics

The back, with a better view of the train.
Some other backside shots
The platform

Birds eye view, how typical...
Market people
And some market stalls

The roof is easily detachable, and has a huge chandelier.

My cat waiting for a chance to destroy my building!

With the roof removed, we see the second floor. It's a small trains museum. I put my most liked creation in the museum, how symbolical...

A little train layout for the kids, and the "bigger kids" as well...

He sure looks like some guy from Australia who had something to do with Wikileaks...
More interior details

First floor/hallway. Notice the cash desk and information boards.

An actual Nilfisk® cleaning machine. Best use of the pompom I can think of...
More of the hallway

The small roofs come off easily as well, and have airconditioning.

Let's go to the left area.

It is a waiting room...
The waiting room

Now to the right area...

A small restaurant, time to eat something!
Restaurant

Small backup generator, important for emergencies...

The building without all roofs.

This is a shot based off of one of the oldest pictures of Alkmaar Station...

^^...I meant this picture...^^
Last but not least, the build inside the city.

Fourth brick commentary:
This is my biggest project yet, and also the most challenging. It took me a while to get the windows right. But I ordered 100 steering wheels, and I fixed the problem.
It was a lot of fun building with blueprints, definitely better than instructions!
I chose to exclude the small bits of the building on both edges, I just didn't like them, and it wouldn't fit in my city.
It was also a pain in the *$$ to get the station up the ladder into my city...
The real station still stands, but has been completely renovated and extended. So it doesn't really look like the modern station.

Excellent "grand central station", and a plus for installing detailed interior decoration. (The toy-train museum is absolutly *WIN*!)
Yes, I see how our two stations share certain design elements. But as they are both build to resemble real stations, it is not so strange... |

He Jelle,
Very, very good. I could use buildings like this in my lego studio. I can see in the picturen that you had spen a lot of time and money to build this. I think..... no, I now, this is very good..... Keep up the good work |

I think you should put some better picture for main picture. This one is really dark and I believe that's the reason why you don't have many visitors.
Thanks, Hrvoje! I changed the main pic... I thought it would look artsy, but after a closer look it was indeed really too dark!

It looks great and it's accurate! I have one friendly advice, though. I think you should put some better picture for main picture. This one is really dark and I believe that's the reason why you don't have many visitors. |
