Reclaiming the Ruins of Karadan
About this creation
“Reclaiming the ruins of Karadan”
Three centuries ago the Tasher Empire stretched from sea to sea across all Kingdoms of men. The Emperors built outpost and highways to connect even the most remote corners of the Empire, as far north as the Black Mountain Highlands. Endless slopes of pine forests and wilderness cover this area where wild beasts roam the land, and remote mountain villages are the only trace of human activity.
The fortress of Karadan was erected to mark this remote Imperial border, but after the Empire's fall to barbaric invasions two centuries ago, it was overran and has subsequently fallen to ruin.
Legends tell of a highly prized Tasher relic known as the "Conduit” which was hidden at Karadan before the Empire's collapse. An object desired by treasure hunters and royal courts alike the Conduit has been the goal of many expeditions into Karadan; all of which have ended in failure. “The Order of the Crown of Thorns” (The Kingdom’s major religious sect) has hired Asparuh of Leon and Vanek Irongut (heir of Omurtag) to reclaim the relic for the temple. On their way up the mountain they have joined up with Morgan; the witch of the Highlands, who has agreed to help recover the relic in order to save two village boys who have foolishly wondered into the ruin the previous night. Upon their arrival they have found a gory and frightening scene; a goblin camp.
Goblins are a smaller; more conniving breed of orc that lives high in the mountains. Tunneling underground and launching raids from remote campsites, few creatures in the mountains are as deadly as a band of goblins; especially when they are led by a chieftain head-taker.
As fate would have it; the goblin horde has made a permanent camp in Karadan’s ruins, and corrupted creatures have infested its every crevice, making short work of hapless explorers who wonder by. As Asparuh and the goblin Chieftain lock eyes across a field riddled with the remains and impaled heads of those who have come before, time begins to dwindle down for the boys lost in the ruin. Will the party of heroes be able to remove the goblin Menace, save the villagers and recover the mythical conduit?

The poor peasant boys who went exploring in search of treasure in a goblin camp; bad ideas always come in two's...

"There's not end to them!"

The party of Heroes, Vanek the Dwarf, Asparuh the warrior and Morgan the witch are a tough trio, but are they tough enough to defeat a full gang of goblins?

Locking eyes with the Goblin Chieftain Head-Taker is an intimidating experience

The fortress was build on a mix of hard rock and limestone, and a century of neglect and tunneling are slowly eating away at its foundations

The Legendary "Conduit", the prize for which many explorers have paid with their lives

The Highlands are a beautiful, and dangerous place

A Norsemen explorer who succumbed to the hail of poison arrows

Hey how did Vanek end´s up like king Vanek?
Do you mean as a position or as a mentality? He is heir to the king of Omurtag in Dwarven Clan Wars. So he just inherits the throne after his father passes. If you mean why does he go from being Asparuh's friend to his enemy that's what chapter 8 is all about ;)
Thanks for reading! |

Wow, now THIS is how you do a diorama! This is something that even AC Pin would love! I love how you made not only such a good story but that it also makes me want to see more of the story, too. I'd love to see more of these sorts of things with the characters, as well as some new ones, with your diorama. Oh, and by the way, you did an awesome job with the diorama. The fortress looked and felt like the old and crumbling fortress that it is and you did an excellent job making LEGO pine trees. Even though TLG has had pine trees for years, yours looks to be even more impressive than what TLG makes. Also, it looks like AC Pin and you seem to be tied for MOTM in my book. |

This is such an awesome creation! I really like the tunnels under the fortress with the ants crawling in them. I sure would hate to be one of those peasants! I also think the corpses everywhere are really cool. It really adds a nice touch to see that poor guy dangling from the tower (though I'd be seriously creeped out if this was real). |

Very atmospheric and fun! That is some of the best looking water I've seen. Let me guess, white underneath some of the trans blue? Oh, and nice cameo of C-3PO! ...Poor 3PO, always getting picked on... :-)
Thanks for the comment Matt, actually the secret to this effect is layering 3 layers of plates, the bottom-most is medium blue, on top of it a layer of trans-clear, and on the very top a few details whenever they are needed of trans clear @X1 plates and cheese slopes. ;) |

Thank you for the great comments guys! :)
I'm happy that my ideas are received so well, indeed the trees are my own design and were the inspiration behind doing a scene in a natural setting.
The Goblin heads are from the Space Police III line, I believe from the biggest set; I just brick-linked them so I'm not 100% sure.
@ Grant W: Of course feel free to use the water technique, please just reference this model if you do. ;) |

I wonder if "The Goblin Menace" is dwarfish for MOC OF THE DAY! This is brilliat! Whenever people pull stuff off like this I just go...WOW! The troll/goblins are really good and I like all the little details and use of pieces. I saw some little elements from POTC Captain's Cabin, as well as Indiana Jones and the Medieval Market village. But they all come together to make a really stunning fig that flows smoothly from set to set. Nice build! 6/5! :P |
