"The brief glow fell upon a huge sitting figure... its head was gone, and in its place was set in mockery a round, rough-hewn stone, with one large red eye in the middle of its forehead."
-The Two Towers
My entry for Round 2 of the wonderful LOTR Trilogy Contests! I decided to make this very obscure scene from the Two Towers - the book that is. In the films, they move the scene to Return of the King.
"Frodo saw the old King's head; it was lying rolled away by the roadside. A trailing plant with flowers like small, white stars had bound itself across the brows as if in reverence..."
The dreaded back-of-the-vig shot, to prove there is no stud overhang! Apart from Frodo's foot... do I get away with that?
A lot of people don't know this scene exists, but having read the books many times, I can say that this was actually one of my favorite scenes in the book. It doesn't have the large-scale glory of the battles and speeches, but there is something about it that I rather like. Good work!
