2011 - Hot Rod [4]
About this creation
Haven't built a rod in a while. This one is a traditional hot rod finished in midnight black. Red and white interior gives it some color and make it stand out in the crowd if the big block wasn't enough to get people to notice this "Black Beauty".

The huge blown engine is based on a 500 cu in Cadillac block, the largest they made. The crew at the shop figured that 8.2 liter engine wasn't big enough and bored it out another 50 cu in for a total of 550 cu in, that's a bit over 9.0 liters. Three boost settings help you save gas and keep the rod civilized when cruising down the strip. The three settings are: 750 hp @ 10 psi, 1000 hp @ 15 psi, and 1500 hp @ 20 psi.

The low compression, high torque nature of the engine is kept un-touched. All the bolt-ons are one off customs in aluminium to keep the weight low; including DOHC heads (4 valves per cylinder), headers, intake manifold, bored out Weiand 6-71 supercharger, and ram air intake. Fuel is handled via direct port fuel injection borrowed from a ZR1, fuel injectors were up sized to handle the extra air being jammed into the motor by a massive blower. Ignition is managed via MSD box, dual distributors and two spark plugs per cylinder.

Power is transferred to the ground through a trusty 9 in Ford rear-end and custom ground billet axles. Meaty 15 in wide tires help propel the beast with minimal wheel spin.

Stopping is provided by Brembo 13 in rotors and 6 piston calipers in all four corners. All the braking hardware is concealed by a faux drum break covers to keep the retro look.

Cushy interior lets you and your bum enjoy the power in comfort. All the modern goodies are present, from stereo and power-steering to keyless entry and push start. The seat and dashboard are finished in Gucci leather.

So to sum it all up, no expenses were spared in building this rolling show piece. This is the first rod that the start-up company "Sunset Customs" has built and it sure going to put them on the map once they start touring local car and nation wide shows.

Built in May 2011.

Wow this is great. Love the interior and steering wheel. But the engine is awesome!!! The belts look spot on and I actually really like the exhaust pipes. Nice number plate too.

This is the classic definition of a muscle car: Take the smallest car you can and use the biggest engine that'll fit. =P I also like your license plate.

The shape is also cool, but seriously, I don't like you exhausts pipes... hope you understand. All the rest is good, details, interior...
