The AH-54 Mk.II Escort Gunship stemmed from a need by the Montrovian military for an escort weapons platform to provide cover for AH-54 heavy assault helicopters when inserting troops into a hot LZ. During insertion operations, the Mk.II aircraft circle the LZ providing over watch as the Mk.I aircraft drop their troops. The Mk.II is also used to transport high ranking officers around the battlefield. Montrovian Defense Systems, Inc. will be upgrading approximately one hundred AH-54s to Mk.II status
About this creation
The Mk.II version of the AH-54 uses a much lighter weight tri-bladed rotor design to provide more lift using less power than the original four bladed Mk.I
The Mk.II is armed with four wing mounted 30mm auto-cannons, two door mounted 12mm machine guns, and a nose turret with helmet-slaved 30mm cannon. Two large ammo boxes take the place of anti-tank missiles on the Mk.II
Busy working on a few helicopters myself and this design may have been the answer I'm looking for. This is a decent design in which it's capable of transporting a fair amount of soldiers, without hindering the amount of fire power a gunship needs.
