Colonial Gunboat
This is a replica of a colonial era gunboat such as those that were used on Lake Champlain.
About this creation
This is a replica of a colonial era gunboat. This is similar to ones used by the French, British and Americans on Lake Champlain during the French and Indian and American Revolutionary Wars. These boats were typically crewed by 8 to 10 oarsmen, an officer and a gun crew of 3 to 5 men. The cannons carried ranged from 9 to 24 pounds (the wight of the shot, 9,12,18,24) and were all bow mounted on modified naval carriages to roll back on slides. This is one of the smaller ones which were approximately 30 feet long. The larger ones (I am currently working on the deck of one) were upwards of 50 feet long by 12 feet wide. This particular one is a single mast with a square sail for sailing in favorable weather. This one like several of the originals has a lantern mounted off of the mast. Small arms were often carried aboard these boats, and I will be adding these to my brickshelf page soon.

A starboard bow shot of the gunboat now mounting a 24 pounder. The oars are longer and the lantern is now visable.
