My first non-Technic or alternative build in a very long time. Also my first 1:17 scale model based on a real car, the Lamborghini Countach.
About this creation
This is definitely not the first Countach built on a 1:17 scale, and probably neither the smoothest nor most detailed one. As I do not own any of the 1:17 Racers models, there is a lack in my collection of arches and wheel fenders that fit the wheels nicely. Instead a lot of smaller parts with SNOT techniques are used to accommodate for this.
To make up for the potential lack in detail, something else will be presented that should make this Countach unique...
The rear with the big spoiler on the back.
The Countach has a very distinctive wedged shape.
An overview from the back showing the unusual position and shape of the airintakes.
Another overview, but this time from straight on.
A door can be opened.
And ofcourse both is also an option.
Everything open, including engine cover and bonnet.
From the back the big V12 becomes now visible.
A closer look at the engine with some chrome accents. It takes a lot of space!
A picture from the interior. It's very basic, but those old time supercars do not need the luxurious stuff.
All they need is the basic essentials so there is a gearstick and hand brake for top performance.
So this is it, right? Or this is perhaps where things start to get interesting. Besides an attempt of a scale model of a Countach, this is also a re-imagination of the traditional Autobot SideSwipe Transformer, which conveniently used to be a Countach in Generation 1 (G1). So let the transformation begin!
Step 1: Sideskirts out
Step 2: Rotation of front
Step 3: Arms fold
Step 4: Face turns and shoulder parts go up
Step 5: Elbows and hands, spoiler comes of the back
Step 6: Spoiler attached as chest piece, exhaust pipes flipped
Step 7: Engine cover open
Step 8: Leg folds out
Step 9: Foot and other leg
Step 10: Kneepads and feet
Some interesting details; the spoiler becomes part of the chestpiece, and the V12 engine turns into the feet! Now if SideSwipe is willing to arise we can see how he looks.
There he is, presenting himself!
He's turning around now...
Seems like he's turning his back on us!
A view from a bird when it flies over, showing the top of SideSwipe.
Profile pic. Looks like he has a big backpack to carry. Luckily there are no people in there.
A close up of his face.
In 'shy' mode his face is hidden. Here you can also see all the hinges on the bottom.
Some other colour variations made in LDD, just to see what they would look like.
Which one is your favourite?
That's simply incredible! I was looking at the Countach and thinking it's one of the very best I've seen in Lego. And then scrolling down to find out it's a transformer that looks great transformed as well! Fantastic job man!
I love the car! no worries about the lack of smooth wheelarches and stuff like that, the original Countash looks very edgy in real life and this model captures it perfectly! To me, the transforming function is really just something extra, this is a beautiful car model!
Never ceases to amaze! The fact that you managed to make all the parts fold up and away, especially with the "fiddly" lego technic parts, is really ground breaking! A truly deserving MOC of the day; 5/5.
Wow, amazing. This was put up in 2011 and I have only just seen it. Some people commented on thin arms in robot mode, but I disagree. Robot mode overall looks good, well proportioned and detailed. Incredible build. Car mode is excellent. Envious of your Lego skills.
This is an amazing model.
The Car itself is impressive enough but transforming it into a fully articulated Robot is mind blowing...
Looks like a long way to go for me to get even close...Lots of fun ahead then.
Thanks for this great idea!
How, how, how?! This car has all the epic details of the Countach and can still be a Transformer! Most Transformers are pretty unreal as car but this isn't at all. Even if this wasn't a Transformer this would be epic and full of details. Amazing job!
i really like all those details in it, especially for being a transformer! although i'm not a fan of transformers i am amazed by the way it looks, and how you figured out how to have it in car mode too! really impressive! 1000/1000
Nathanael, thank you for your recent comments on my Classic Race Teams mocs especially your carefully worded critic of my GT40. I couldn’t find any of your micro mocs (maybe they are on brickshelf) so I am having another look at this masterpiece. I still can’t believe how you have managed to do this it is breathtakingly good. I think I will reduce my GT40 to this size but I very much doubt it will come anywhere close to looking as good as this. As you know you are a huge inspiration to me and your comments are always are well received. I think I will build another alternate soon I need a break from big cars.
I've just rediscovered this beauty and seen, that I haven't written a comment, yet. So, it's about time :-))
In my opinion it's already one of the best Countach models in this scale: Cool shaping, a lot of details and a nice interiour, a great LEGO model - WOW!
But you've added the extra candy and built it as a Transformer - Yeah, Sideswipe! It's awesome!
Great job! :-))
this is great! its very hard to make transfomers, especially in lego. going to post some of mine soon too!

WOW! when i saw it i thought, "yeah its just another big car, and its pretty good" then, i saw its features,"the doors and engine cover are cool" then i saw it transform! then i thought " WOW, this is GREAT!" I congratulate you 55555/5
5/5. Epic moc except there is one problem...This is not sideswipe.....Sideswipe is the grey/silver sports car with a blade under his hand.I don't know the name of this one even after watching the movie. But I do know he kicks butt.
Wow what a great Moc! I made a bumblebee transformer at a smaller scale (almost minifigure scale) and it was very difficult-I find that the smaller you go, the more detail is compromised and the harder it is to make. You on the other hand have great detail.
When making a transforming model of a car, you always have to compromise on something. Either the looks of the car, or the detail of the interior, or both. But what amazed me so much was that yours has no compromises!! Its a completely perfect model car, and yet, transformed, its still functional and great to look at. Wondeful work! :D
Wow! Great job! The alternative form looks a lot better than the robot form which is a big clunky-looking. But that's allowed when it's so awesome like this! It's amazing how it transforms and I'm glad you put pictures of it actually transforming because you don't very often get those on other Transformer mocs on here. Great stuff.
Wow! There are a few Sideswipes out there but none of them manage as good a representation of the Lamborghini as this. I'm impressed that you managed to get so much interior detail and still have room for the transformation parts. Fantastic!
Just to add mine to all the other voices here...Great build! The Countach is fantastic by itself. It has all of the articulation that we have come to expect from your work. BUT...To have it also be a transformer is icing on the cake. INCREDIBLE!
One of my new favorite MOCs for 2011! You can't even tell it's a transformer by looking at the main photo! If I were you though, I wouldn't have said anything. You should have just said it was a model of a Countach and then waited for everybody's funny reactions when they saw that it transformed. (haha)

epic! I thought it was just a model at first glance!
The car mode is stunning. If you took a sander to those studs and made it smooth, I would swear it was a toy car and not a Lego car. The fact that it transforms is amazing. While the robot mode itself isn't as good as the car, it's still looks great. Wonderful work!
An amazing MOC, I do not think it could get any better. Sure you could probaly make it studless and more rounded but I sort of like the boxie studded look. An exelent job, you couldn't even tell it was a transformer when it was in vehicle mode.
A quick look at the main pic, and I thought this was JUST a great looking Lamborghini. Then I read the name Sideswipe, and I realized, it's a Transformer TOO?! Excellent work on this model. I'm really liking all the detail you put into the car mode. Any plans on making his brother Sunstreaker?
I've tried a transformer but put it on hold after a few failed attempts. This is what I wanted to achieve - an accurate car and a free standing transformer. By far the best I've seen anyone do.
Wow!! This is unbelievably good. It looks so good in car mode that you would never guess it is a transformer. I love the studs showing and the snot is great too. Robot mode is also brilliant. I am working on a transformer right now - jetfire :).
This is brilliant! The car is stunning! The fact it transfors is just mind boggling. My favourite creation of yours, i want one! any instructions? if i could give a million smileys i would but 5 will have to do :):):):):)
