Systems Alliance Fighter
FTL equipped singleships fielded by the Alliance Navy.
About this creation

Deployed en mass against larger opponents, Fighters are small, agile craft armed with disruptor topredoes - weapons which generate large mass effect fields on impact with the kinetic barriers of a target vessel.

The localized space-time distortion knocks out barrier emitters causing breaches in a ship's defenses and making it vulnerable to mass accelerator fire. As the torpedoes are relatively slow moving, they must be deployed at short range and in great number in order to overwhelm an enemy's GUARDIAN point defense system.

This was an interesting build, not many images were available as these ships get virtually no screen time, but do appear in both Mass Effect 1 and 2 if you look for them.

As per usual, I tried to balance functionality and looks, which in this case, I don't think came off too badly - the ship can hold a minifig, in theory, although I don't imagine that they'd have much room. As I recall, the canopy section is built with only a few studs holding it in place for ease of removal.

I played around with various modifications inspired by the Codex entries in both games. The Shortest red vessel is my concept of how an interceptor might look -

'Interceptors are a type of fighter optimized to attack other fighters, with no ability to damage starships.'

I figured that cutting down the bow would reduce a fighter's mass, allowing for the sharp maneuvers necessitated by the interceptor's role. Additional optics hardware would also be of benefit to tracking of small, nimble targets, which takes the form of a large cylinder assembly on the prow, inspired by that of an Apache.

During the development of my 'interceptor', I cut down the ship's main engines in a bid to reduce size. This, in theory would have the detrimental effect of reducing the ship's speed and acceleration, perhaps even compromising spaceflight. This resulted in the 'gunship' variant, shown in blue, complete with law enforcement lights and a tear-gas grenade launcher.

'The Thanix can fire reliably every five seconds, rivaling a cruiser's firepower but mountable on a fighter or frigate.' - Another codex snippet responsible for the other two modified ships Cerberus orange for the more 'badass' dual-cannon wielding ship, and standard red trim for a less ludicrous alliance vessel.
