Mission 9- Epidemic of Nelvaan
Mission Briefing: Nelvaan, being a fairly primitive system, currently sits in the wake of the Techno Union as the CIS push deeper within the outer rim territories. As the adjacent planets of Lok, Tythe, and Christophsis have already been succumbed to the ultimate power of the Confederation and their counterparts, Nelvaan is left defenseless upon to constant spread of violence and plague across the planet. Nelvaan had recently been experiencing an abnormally elongated winter, which has halted any presence of offworlders, as there are no resources left to harvest. The planet may serve as a staging ground if the Republic is to cut a line through Separatist space towards the R-16 Sector, housing major CIS installations on Geonosis and Hypori. Ithorian Jedi General Roron Corobb has been assigned to oversee Republic operations as our forces attempt to conquer the system and its inhabitants. As the Champion and the Redeemer have already landed in Nelvaanian occupied space, our medical officers have claimed the inhabitants to be severely sickly from the semi-sentient Droch parasites. Immediate action is required if this plague is to be repelled, as the insects breed at an alarmingly rapid pace. Drochs have never been distributed in such a widespread array, which leads us to believe a hostile presence of the Techno Union to be held on the system. The Republic refuses to abandon the innocent! The Grand Army has currently began to deploy friendly troops across the far reaches of the planet, as more and more CIS forces are uncovered. This is where the Grand Army is counting on you, for in war, there is no such thing as luck - only hard work and opportunity.
Mission 9.1- Not the Droid we are Looking For
Mission Briefing: The Republic recently deployed several Prowler-1000 Probe Droids to serve as reconnaissance units in the battle, whom were scouting the upper levels of the wreckage. Their last report was that the squadron of probes had sliced through the craft's mainframe computer before they were ripped apart by Battledroid Snipers. The data these reconnaissance droids were housing is quite vital to the Chancellor - a step ahead is always welcome. The location of the Droch cargo, too, was found and installed within the units' memory before the squadron was destroyed. Break off from the majority of the 89th forces and explore the higher levels of the wreckage and recover the battered remains of our reconnaissance droids. Be advised - those sniper units are likely still actively patrolling the hight of the damaged craft.
Nelvaan didn't even really have anything the CIS wanted, it was just another planet under their control. Anyway, as several Droid Landing Crafts tried to escape the planet they were shot down and crashed back to the surface. Then command found out that there may be several Droids still active in a particular craft who were signalling for reinforcements to pick up their precious cargo, assumed to be Droch parasites.
As the 89th searched the vessel for droids, the Republic deployed several Prowler-1000 Probe Droids to slice into the computer mainframe. They achieved this but were then torn apart by Droid Snipers. This is where Raptor Squad comes in.
We made our way into a storage room with several over-looking platforms. I was about to tell my men to be careful when Rusty spotted a probe droid and ran over to examine it and gain the information it held. He did this really quickly and I learned from Kye that Rusty was an expert on computers but sometimes spent days without practising fighting- hence his name. Then I realized something was wrong- this wasn't a republic Probe Droid! I scaled up to the next platform with my new Flamethrower (A hot gun for a cool world) and then the Snipers appeared. If I hand't be ready and Ace didn't have fast reactions then I don't think my Squad would still be whole. I've got to hand it to the droids though, their plan worked. Almost.
Mission 9.2- Through the Blast Doors
Mission Briefing: CIS Reinforcements have just recently arrived at the battlefield, outnumbering the 89th forces occupied within the wreck of the C-9979 Landing Craft. The Republic Garrison is currently unable to intervene, leaving your troops temporarily stranded to fight off the hostile strike force. The Confederation outnumbers the Republic by a three-to-one margin, and your squads stand as the only available troops to hold the perimeter. The Lieutenants of the 89th would be crushed by the enemy forces, due to the fact that our numbers are dwindling against the mighty power of the Confederation. Fortunately, the damaged craft of which we are currently held within had been carrying vital weaponry and gear along with its own precious Droch Cargo. More specifically, three Proton Torpedo Battery Cannons had survived the crash and are placed at the tip of the higher levels of the vessel. Commandeer the guns; as they will serve as a vital asset if we are to successfully hold off the Confederations' reinforcements.
The bulk of the 89th Legion was in trouble. (As usual.) After us Lieutenants finally found the correct Probe Droid the location of a huge Droch Warehouse, heavily guarded by Droidekas, was revealed. Something needed to be done about the Droid reinforcements and the Proton Cannons on the upper-levels were the answer.
I left Hotshot, Kicker and Snatcher to help the 89th whilst taking the rest of Raptor Squad up to the cannons. We approached the blastdoors to the decks but unluckily the Droids opened the doors before we were fully prepared. Our weapons were enough to scare the droids back into closing the doors and Kye somehow managed to throw a grenade through the doors and blow up the Proton Cannon's ammunition.
Let's just say that not only did the explosion blast open the doors again, but cleared all the droids and a few of the nearby cannons too.
Mission 9.3- The Final Hours
Mission Briefing: The 89th legion may be overwhelmed by the sheer numbers of CIS Garrison dispatched in the opening days of the battle of Nelvaan. We may be wiped out if they are not effectively disregarded. The Lieutenants of our legion have been burdened upon with the entire force at risk. Move behind the advancing Separatist lines at the ground of the wreckage and activate an Orbital Strike Beacon at the rear of their offense. Protect the beacon at all costs - our shuttles will pick you up only minutes before the Laborious unleashes its true firepower against the Separatist army.
My legion was being wiped-out by the many Droids deployed in the opening stages of the battle and there was no way we would win- we had to evacuate. However, before we did so Command decided to have us destroy the Landing Craft completely before we left. Raptor Squad hauled the Orbital Strike beacon to some wreckage near the craft and prepared for a battle.
The Droids just never stopped coming. Snatcher was hit but no one had time to worry about him as more Droids arrived. Ace, Rusty and Kye climbed to the top of the wreckage in Sniper position. This proved to be a brilliant idea of Ace's and the Droids seemed to be coming in smaller numbers. The shuttle arrived just in time to pick us up before the Laborious destroyed the craft completely.
After the battle I heard that most of the 89th Legion had been completely wiped-out and that the Legion is no longer active. The survivors are to be shifted to another Legion- I hope we get moved to the 707th with Major Pyne. Snatcher will live but he will be out of action for at least a month. Luckily I have found a replacement, a shinnie called "Spark" who was the only remaining member of his squad. He will do just fine.
We have been granted some leave over the next month- finally.
