The Green Star
The Green Star: faithful vessel of interplanetary explorer, Shail Elkhan.
About this creation

The background for the main shot comes from crazykinux on Flickr. It is under a Creative Commons license (Non-commercial, No Attribute, Share Alike). However, I like to give credit where it is due.

Shail Elkhan considers himself a mercenary scout, though he is not above scavenging or even looting if necessary. He is highly trained in the skills required to explore remote planets beyond the far colonies: stellar navigation, geology, botany, zoology, and hunting being his primary focuses. He has discovered several new species on his voyages, and narrowly escaped from some of them.

Shail is usually hired by large corporations looking to expand their colonization efforts or trying to find new mineral or energy resources to exploit. His primary employer, Outer Sphere Industries, keeps him busy, but he can usually find a few Central Standard months here and there to do what he likes or pick up side contracts.

His ship, the Green Star, is a clunky (some would say ugly), but reliable modified OSI UX-7 Scout Class starship. It is equipped with a near-light speed capable Mercury-Fozzon 6Core engine, a Selinian Mark V Tri-cannon, a pod of eight multi-head missiles, and a detachable stealth drone (which accompanies him planet-side for most missions). His toolbox carries a useful assortment of weapons and tools, and includes a rear mount for his trusty Karanel motorbike.

Front View - You can see the light from the engine, though I wish I had taken a shot in a dark place to really show it off.

Missile Pod - These multi-head missiles are capable of punching through most energy shields and deliver quite a blast directly to the enemy's hull. They can also be deployed as "distractors," transmitting high energy signals that are quite effective at drawing opponent missiles' guidance systems away from the Green Star.

Side View - You can see Shail through the window here...

...and here he is with the doors thrown wide!

Toolbox - Here you can sneak a peek at Shail's kit.

Getting ready for a hunt, from the looks of things.

Stealth Drone - (This has been a long-time part of my collection, though it is usually a micro-scale starfighter. I just thought it fit well with the overall vehicle/concept).

While the Green Star did not come out entirely the way I had hoped, it did accomplish several of my main goals when setting out to build this.

  1. Studless - I've always wanted to design a studless ship, and this is my first success.

  2. SNOT - I don't think I could get much more SNOT than this one.

  3. Use those big lime green pieces - and in a way that makes sense/works.

  4. Integrate lights - There is one of those old school 9V power bricks in the middle of the engine section. Probably the most challenging part of the build.

  5. Color blocking - This is the most careful I have been with my color blocking. The only part I am not happy about is that the stripes on the missile pod are perpendicular to the rest of them...but I'm not going to redesign that thing a fifteenth time...sorry.

Thanks for checking out the Green Star!

Sweet ship, I love your use of lights and the color scheme is great. I also like the way that there's a lot of things that flap up, making this both awesome looking and quite playable. Studlessness always looks nice as well. Great job.
