V-wing V. 3
The fastest and most agile ship in the Republic Navy.
About this creation

This is Version 3 of my Alpha-3 Nimbus-class V-wing Starfighter, and it has improved since you last saw it. Nearly all remaining elements of the underlying 6205 architecture have been changed and modded, leaving a ship that holds itself to much higher aspirations and price points. I believe that this ship is still the most accurate minifig scale version of the ship. Of course I consider this scale to be harder because many areas which can simply be built to suit at larger scales are much harder here because the necessary pieces don't exist, and those that do are too big. But, as with all things that look better it has ended up even more fragile than before. Also, this is the first completed version with which I am not completely satisfied, but with the approaching end of summer I will have no time to work on this for a while, and the largest problem I have right now is the need for a completed underside, which will take a very long time, which is why I am holding off on it.

This shot shows how I have changed due to a comment the rakish angle of the wings to a more subdued one for flight. I have also lowered the nose to fit more into the style of the real ship.

This shot shows the newly narrowing nose and changes to the plating to make it more streamlined. Also, here you can see the lightened central column, to allow the change in color around the cabin area.

This shot shows the wing hub structure which, although it is the one that works best, did not allow me to integrate the hub cover without making it bulky and unwieldy. On the other hand, I am very satisfied with how the rear hub wings turned out, because they took a long time, and I have yet to see ones as realistic as it anywhere on the web, even though they are a bit big.

The engines are now more realistic and larger, cones instead of cylinders.

The mini engines grilles on the back have been integrated, even though I'm still not happy with their ratio and the size of them but I doubt I will be able to do any better without some sort of unusual or new piece. Also, since I found out I don't have enough pieces to finish the whole extended block in dark red, and since it looks even better, the sides of the engine have been SNOTed. Which also creates a skinnier and more vertical look to the engine, which is necessary.

Here as you can see the aforementioned extension of the engine block, alongside the switch back to the Q7 spherical droid for realism.

Here you can see one of my pride and joys, the cockpit, and since I could not find any info on how it should look, I took from what I knew. And that is that the V-wing is similar to the eta-2, so I took a look at Revenge of the Sith and built in the side buttons, front screen, and control handles, which I love since I built them out of zip line hooks, coming out exactly as I need them.

Here you can see the gray side plating that insulates the cabin, as in the real v-wing.

And here we have the true pride of the V-wing, it's wing landings. To make the wing stick out enough and be strong enough to support the V-wing I had to make them more angled during the transition, which is switchable at anytime, and since the front is really heavy, I still had to have frontal landing gear. Also, the gray headlamp bricks with plates, are there to restrict the movement of the individual wings, because as you can see, the wings hubs are not actually supposed to move with the wings, so I was not able to integrate a gearbox. Also, the cooling grills were taken from a design I saw on brickshelf that I really liked, but that one was based on the battlefront 2 version rather than that of the movie.

An image of the cabin without the pilot, showing all of the controls, and the pilot's chair.

And finally, and image of the pilot's chair and the storage space behind it which holds both his macrobinoculars and gun in case of an emergency ejection.

Brickshelf which I stole the cooling grills from-
A very useful reference picture-
Some nice renders from the battlefront 2 version-
Some useful shots of the Hasbro version, which is actually fairly accurate, and any Youtube review of the set can be very helpful
And this is a gallery with some very nice reference shots which I could find nowhere else-
And of course the very useful as always Wookieepedia

Thanks for perusing, and enjoy!
C&C always welcome

@Space Gypsy-At this scale I would not be able to achieve the necessary angles with a tiled setup @E.K.O.-If you read the full article you can see that I can't add on the hub cover, plus it is actually fairly close to the source this way if you look on wookieepedia, And I actually like my background, it is very drab, plus I am not with the ability of photoshop or a nice setup.

Very good! However, the way the wings are attached looks weird, and you also need to get a better background. However, I like the techniques you used in it!

I agree with the previous comment, this is THE best V-wing I have seen on the pages. Very accurate and good techniques used. Again, my only advice would be to use tiles, rather than leave bare studs.

I have to say that this is the BEST V wing in minifig scale I have seen! All of the angles and details are so accurate! Amazing job! The only thing you could change would be adding a slight bit of inward angle on the wings. Other than that, It is awesome!
