72 Picard Piranha (Plymouth Barracuda)
This is my MOC of Jade/Grove Champions car in the video game “Interstate 76.” It has reinforced armor plating; top mounted 50 cal. Machine Gun and 25mm Cannon, as well as rear flame thrower and landmine dropper. It's a classic car from a classic game that won a lot of award but was never popular for some reason. :(
About this creation
The assembly line (how it was built):
For starters I don’t know how long it took to build this car, I can’t even say how many days! It was more then one and less then five, and I stayed up until 1:00am at least once. The first day I stayed up late and had only gotten the front bumper and grill, but I knew I had something because it was a really sweet bumper and grill! I had actually gotten more then that done though, but at 12:00am I realized that it was all wrong and broke every thing else. I was doing some experiments with trying to actually get the drive train into the design but it didn’t work for two reasons. One was that it used up too many pieces that I didn’t have and two was that it meant I couldn’t have a 2 by whatever that I have run along the bottom of all my cars in the past which is the main factor for structural strength. So you’ll just have to pretend that that 2 by whatever (3 of them in this case) is the drive train. I also couldn’t figure out all this stuff: How long to make the hood; how long to make the passenger compartment and roof; how long to the car in general; should it have a rear seat. All of that stuff to considerable time but I eventually got it. Then I realized that the trunk was too long and so I had to rip the back end off and rebuild it. It also took me a little while to get the weapons right, especially that 50 cal, it was a… {Me: “What do you mean I can’t use that word?!? They use it in the game!” MOCpages staff: “No! Find something else!” Me: “Fine!”} ‘…Pain’ to build. Later I had to rework the wheel design because they kept falling off, it was hard {“I know your monitoring me!”} to make a design that had both ground clearance and strength but I did it.

The construction pics:
I know there are only 3 and they are kinda blurry but hay, at least I took them! I've never even done that before.

Behind the wheel (about the car):
I tried to capture every aspect about this car in my MOC of it, there are very few things I left out.

Features :
This car has my usual opening doors, hood, trunk, and a detailed engine, and interior. I sort of went above and beyond with the interior though, it has the stering wheel, seets, handbrake and gear shift but I was trying to be completely fathful to the game so I added the “Tyler-Barnett - TB525 Limited Edition Vigilante Instrument Suite (VIS)” (yes, I stole that from the manual), Which is the radar, and the vehicle damage/ammo indicator hanging from the ceiling (though the damage and ammo indicator isn’t that great on the LEGO model, but I used the closest piece I could find). And of coarse lets not forget about the guns that are on the car, I even went as far as to add the tank for the flamethrower and Landmines for the dropper in the trunk, (The game never said they were in the trunk but where else would they go?!?)

Stats: (stolen from the in game “configure chassis” menu)

Power plant: 432 C.I. SHO V8
Suspension: Coil Overs
Brakes: 2 disk, 2 drum
Wheels: 13 inch

Top 1: 50cal MG
Top 2: 25mm Cannon
Rear 1: Gas Launcher (flame thrower)
Rear 2 (Dropper): Landmines

About the game:
A-W-E-S-O-M-E-! and that’s the understatement of the century, or last century a guess, the game is from 1998.
Game play:
In a nut shell “Interstate 76” is a game where you go around in an armor plated car with guns mounted on it and blow stuff up. When you start to hear the description of “Interstate 76” your first thought is probably “Twisted Metal.” Well other then the ‘guns on cars part’ the game is nothing like “Twisted metal,” you see “Interstate 76” is less of a ‘car combat game’ and more of a ‘car combat simulator.’ There is no power ups or crummy health bar in I76, if you run out of ammo mid mission, too bad, you’re out of luck. Your car also takes location specific damage in the game, if you take a missile to your left side, it will damage your left side and so your armor will be weakened only there. If you are going on a mission where you are chased my some one, just rearrange some of your armor so that more of it is on the rear of your car instead of the front/sides. The game is much like a flight simulator, except with cars, it has so many controls, literally at least half the keys on the keybord are used to play the game, and it has one of the best behind the wheel views of any video game I have ever played.
I76 takes place in an alternate version of the year 1976, it’s a little like Mad Max in a way where Gas is scarce and criminals roam freely. Except in this most the police are corrupt and have been bought off so the law enforcement is done by vigilantes. The game fallows Grove Champion (CB code name: Swinger), the brother of Jade Champion (Vixen) who was killed after the games antagonist got tired of her trying to play detective and figure out what he was up to. Grove inherits his sister’s car and her mission: to figure out what Antonio Malochio is up to and stop him.

Just in case any die hard Barracuda fans are out there and wanted to see it without guns.

The 50cal and 25mm

The future:
This is MOC is basically done, other then adding in orange parts as I get them to replace the yellow ones and adding some custom decals (real ones, sharpied scotch tape wont work for this), there isn’t any think I want to change. But I think I did pretty good assuming orange is one of the rarest parts LEGO makes. Oh and probably improve my Grove figure too.

If any of you have never played Interstate 76 I would at least recommend watching some gameplay videos of it, if not buying it entirely. (Good Old Games) has it with the expansion pack for $5 so don’t say you don’t have the money.

Oh and I really hope you all like this page because it took me over 3 hours to make, I swear MOCpages if you crash...!

Ya-Hoooooooo! MOCpages homepage baby! Double peace sign of awesomeness!

I hope you don't see this as showing off, this is just me being really hyper and exited because I never thought this would happen.

Quoting Steve The Squid Awesome! an orange barracuda is my dream car! (at least the realistic dream. I'd actually want an orange roadrunner, but there's only 17 left in the world, so I've pretty much given up on THAT dream. :)
My guess is that there are more then 17 of them left, just 17 known ones, there are probably many more rusting in old barns and over grown back yards somewhere. But you are right, owning a roadrunner isn't very realistic, but neither is my dream car, the Retro Wagon which right now only exists in LEGO, lol! Personally my realistic dream car is either a 64 Impala hard top or 69 Charger, probably the Impala though.

I remember playing Interstate 76 way back then. For it's time, it was an excellent game and I had such a good time causing so much mayhem blowing up other cars. Thanks for the memories!
