This is the Audi TT Mk I (Type 8N, 1998-2006) as a 4-wide model. The round shapes of the original made it very tricky to build this model. It has SNOT front end, rear end and side panels.
About this creation
This was my personal dream car since I saw the first concept at the Frankfurt Motor Show IAA in 1995. I bought the first model in 1/43 scale when the stock model came out in 1998. For me it was the dream car I might get to buy one day. I drive one now and, of course, it had to be part of my 4-wide collection. Just like the real one it had to be blue.
I built version 1.0 right after my first three Italian Classics, but I wasn't very satisfied with it. So I didn't post it here. But I ordered it with the three other models at DESIGNbyME to have a base to go on building. Now that I've finished my second version, I can show you some pictures of it:
The side view was OK, but the bumpers on the front and the back just didn't work very well, so I had to change them. I played around with SNOT designs for both parts and came up with a front and rear end only built of cheese wedges in different colors.
This is the new front view. I think it looks much rounder this way.
And here the new rear view.
The greenhouse already looked OK in the first version, so I didn't change it a lot. I tried some other designs in the process to get an even rounder shape, but they all didn't work well in this scale. I would have to build the whole greenhouse in black color, but I wanted to have the blue arch of the roof line.
