The 1970's were a time of strong technical innovation in the sports car racing world. Teams tried what they could to get even the slightest advantage over their competitors. One such team was MG-Vanquish with their Shadow series of cars. Unfortunately, there is not much information about these cars, but what is known is that the few races they did, they did well. When the Mk II debuted, it placed third in its first and only race. And the Shadow was even driven by drivers such as Jackie Stewart.
It is obvious that these cars were at the forefront of aerodynamics for closed-wheel race cars at the time. Massive wings and smooth body work made for an excellent performing, and good looking car!!!
They were also cars of excess: Excess down force, massive tires, powerful V8 engines, (in this car at least), and excessive speeds…It truly was a hardcore racing series!!!
The Lego version was inspired and based upon the Mk III iteration from Hot Wheels™. It is approximately 1/18 scale with opening doors, full interior, engine, and exterior details. (If anyone knows how I would go about making the decals for it, please feel free to let me know:).
Overall it is a car which captures a very strong period in sports car racing. With beautiful looks and performance to match, it is indeed a shadow to what was and a reflection of what was to come!!!
Do you know the word "photorealistic"! One of the very best cars ever. Especially the air intake on the right upper side is simple but superbe. Perhaps some chrome / silver parts for the gearbox in the rear would work out fine? Once more, WOW and black is beautiful!
