About this creation
Ignitus ducked his head as a plasma bolt hurled past him. He crouched beneath the bunker, barking orders to the nearby toa. He saw Wave tending to a critically injured soldier, and Airius taking purchase on another Order member from his sniping post. His head was racing, and he tried to recall all that had happened to this point.
It had been one week since the day it all began. Ignitus had heard about the disaster at Siraya nui, of the new dark force. He had been given orders to lead his squad on a rescue mission to the island, and had been keen to scope it out after the rumours that had been spread about it. The island was bare and destroyed, and nothing could live there. He had given the order to head back, but had been contradicted by an unknown officer higher rank than him. He was going to ask the identity of the officer, when masked strangers attacked him and his squad. He quickly realised that he had been set up, and had returned fire. They had gotten back when he had been given the order to report to the council chambers. He was outraged to find that the council had been killed, and a new leader was in place. He had not been told the name of him, but was quick to tell him what he thought about the set-up.
“ With all due respect, “sir”, you set me up. I demand to know why you sent me and my squad to Siraya nui!”
Ignitus had shouted, and the unknown leader had replied, “ I’m afraid you don’t have clearance for that information.”
“Clearance? I don’t give a damn about your bloody clearance!” Ignitus screamed. “I have served this order all my life, and I am NOT, about to be denied by some new officer!” Ignitus winced, but he replied full of fury, “ I’m sorry sir, but I resign.” After that, so much happened. Almost all of the other toa resigned as well; outraged by the attempted murder of one of the only elite toas left living. In response, the order had declared war on them. Ignitus convinced them to form into their own faction, the toa legion. He had wanted to form the order, but he refused to become the leader. He was a soldier, not a leader, and always would be.
He was aroused from his thought by Blackclaw reporting in on the radio. –BUZZ- “ Squad leader, Blackclaw reporting in!”
“ Hearing you loud and clear Blackclaw. What’s the situation?” Ignitus replied.
“ Sir! Me, Icicle and Landslide have taken out the plasma cannon battery as you ordered sir, but are being overrun at the fallback point, sir!”
Gunfire was coming from the other side of the radio, and Ignitus struggled to hear Blackclaw on the other end. “Blackclaw, come in!” The radio went dead. “Dammit.” Ignitus said out loud, and keyed the channel for the short-range radio. “ Strike team 1 report in!”
“ Wave reporting sir!” Wave replied, and she took off towards the command post.
“ Airius reporting in sir.” Airius fired his last round, and flew back.
They both arrived quickly, and met Ignitus in the ops room. “ Good to see you two in one piece. Now, as you know Blackclaw and the rest of the squad were sent to deal with the plasma cannon battery that has been keeping us from getting out of here. They succeeded, but we just lost communications with them at the fallback point. Re-stock on ammunition and equipment, and meet me in the hangar in five.”
“ Yes sir.” They both said in unison. They walked into the weapons room, or as they fondly named it now, “the boom room”. Airius sat and disassembled his rifle in lightning fast speed, and then re-assembled it in a different, more compact version. He removed the silencer, then the scope, settling with a simple integrated link to his HUD. Wave sat and looked through the different energy types she could use with her crossbow. She picked up one and inspected it, then inserted it into the crossbow. She walked over and picked up the normal adrenalin shots and field medical kit, then walked out towards the hangar. They walked into the drop ship bay, and saw Ignitus waiting by the open ramp of their personal drop ship, covered in war paint and the name, “Mrs missile”.
“ Strap in, we have a while to wait before we get there.” Ignitus strained to tell them above the roar of the engines.
“ Evasive manoeuvres!” Ignitus barked at Airius as they swooped over the battlefield at breakneck speed, missiles and pulse lasers licking the sides of the drop ship. They reached the fallback point, and saw Blackclaw and the rest of the squad fending off encroaching waves of Order soldiers.
“ Keep this bird in the air until I say so!” Ignitus shouted to Airius, who nodded in response, focusing on keeping the craft airborne. Ignitus stood at the edge of the ramp, looking down at the battle below. It was worse than he thought, as the order had already managed to emplace plasma turrets all around. He spotted Blackclaw and the others, surrounded by the order soldiers. That was all the motivation he needed. Ignitus leapt off, and plunged his sword into the ground, massive fissures sprouting all around, swallowing the order soldiers, throwing up magma and boiling rocks at the remainder.
“ Sir! Glad you could make it to the party!” Icicle joked, as he ran up to Ignitus.
“ I’d rather we end it now. How’s that sound with you guys?” Ignitus told him, and walked over to Blackclaw.
“ Gladly sir.” Blackclaw replied, and they made a break for the drop ship.
When they made it back, a chorus of whoops and cheers, coming from the happy Matoran of their base’s village, greeted them. They were considered true hero’s nowadays, having stood up to the oppressive new Order of Mata nui leader, and forming the legion. Ignitus was disturbed from the cheering by his tac-pad, and looked down at it, a bit annoyed by what he saw. “ Alpha squad mission personnel receiving new member, under direct command of the high general. Codename: Howl.” Ignitus was intrigued by the fact that his squad was receiving a new member, and took off to meet him.
