Blacktron Advance Recon
In this MOC, I revisit one of my favorite Lego themes ever: Blacktron! I added a slight twist: instead of the traditional yellow highlight, I experimented with trans-orange highlight, and I have to say I am very pleased with the result.
About this creation
Classic Blacktron had to be one of the best Space themes ever! The black minifigs with the black visors were so menacing in the traditional happy world of space lego - they were like Lego goths! In this MOC I tried to achieve that same menacing look of the late 80's sets.

Close up side front angle shot. I'm still experimenting with my camera settings - this shot is a little fuzzy.

On the roof there is a little scout ship that can detach from the main ship. I'm sure the dude sitting there really appreciates those hyperspace travel speeds...

This is where the detachable front section docks to the main rear section.

This is the little scout ship, preparing for... scouting.

FLAMES!! Yes!! The flames make the space ship go faster...

The front section detached from the rear section.

I added this little hatch to cover up the hole for the rear docking. It looks kinda neat!

The front section can detach to engage the enemy in high speed dog fights. Known for their phenomenal fighting abilities and tenacity, the Blacktron are not to be messed with in combat situations.

Here's the pilot in the cockpit. Always smiling in the face of death, never afraid to wreak havoc at the slightest provocation.

The rear section serves as an engineering / science lab. It can be parked in low orbit around new worlds about to be enslaved by the Blacktron, or it can be landed on the surface and serve as a base for exploration.

Top view. I love the shape of the wings!

I can lift the roof so I can poke around inside...

The chief science officer sitting by his workbench.

The workbench. This is where experiments are conducted and alien specimens are dissected.

A hatch in the rear can be opened to reveal...

...a scout vehicle! This tiny little car can travel around undetected, gathering intel to prepare for the coming Blacktron invasion.

The disassembled pieces of this MOC shown together.

Preparing for the final onslaught!

Thanks for looking.

I am very glad that quality is so much higher priority than quantity for you. Every of your creation is so beautiful. I love much of rare pieces used on this ship , as well as playability which is extreme in this work. BTW , you were my first favorite creator since I discovered MOCpages. Good job, Rob :D

Brutal. I remember lighting up all my old space sets with a blacklight. The trans neon orange looks awesome under the UV. This masterpiece is definitely worth the expense of a UV bulb.

Another old-school looking masterpiece! I like the playability of your builds - it is the essence of Lego! The orange is good. I read your home page and I share a similar story of Lego; I loved getting sets at X-mas and building them by the tree. Sorry, thought I'd share that. Anyway, great build!

Well done! You really caught some of the aspects of classic space sets I grew up with. The black and orange theme works well. You could say it's a different faction of Blacktron. I always thought that Lego lost something when they went to Blacktron II; those guys were wimps compared to their forefathers.
