Based on the 1988 book by Marie McSwigan of the same title, this small SNOT vignette has been built for over three months but I have never gotten around posting it. In the book, a WWII era group of Norwegian children is commissioned to smuggle nine million dollars in gold bars past Nazi sentries on their sleds. The only way to keep the gold safe is to transport it to America, but moving so much gold so far right under the noses of the Nazis was a task that only the most unsuspecting children could accomplish. At the end of each run, the gold bars would be buried in the snow and marked with a snowman where the captain of the American-bound boat would pick them up. But someone is watching from the shadows...
About this creation
In addition to my delay in picture taking, I had to fight the image uploader for three days straight to get these on the site. By now I think I've seen every error the uploader can throw at me.
The top of the SNOTed vignette.
It has been quite some time since I have read the book, but I think these two are named Peter and Helga.
Awesome dark blue snow cap.
I cheated just a little bit with the sled. The curved elements were little ABS hooks that I clipped off of a white clothes hanger.
I love that sled, too bad it's not purist. Lego should really make a piece like that.

Very nice work, the book sounds really interesting I might have to read it in the future, anyway back to the moc, I really love the sled even though you cheated a little bit but sometimes being inventive is better than being purist ;)

Brilliant. This is amazing. I love everything about it.
I read that book back in fourth grade. Loved it then and you totally did it justice! What a great job! I love the minifigs, Helga and the Nazi look excellent but I just wonder if the dark blue snow cap looks too modern on Peter (is that his name)? But all the snow work is excellent and nice use of those new POTC gold bars. What a genius idea!
