Mission 11 of the 457th Corps RPG: Taris; the Queen of Hearts.
About this creation
Training for Taris:
It was nice to be back home for a while, I even practised on the old Citadel Course to pass the time. I have got the hang of fighting and using a jetpack now. Raptor Squad will not be with me on Taris- Geonosis was just to hard on them and not one of them was not injured in the cruiser crash or the following trek through the desert. Snatcher is ready for action though, and I have found my old squad member and one of his men to join the team. They were quite happy to do so after the loss of their squad on Geonosis. I think that CT-10-2011 "Hunter" and CT-6890 "Jumper" will fit in just fine.
Plus, they already have airborne training.
Mission 11- Taris; the Queen of Hearts
Mission Briefing: By definition, Taris is considered nothing more than an industrialized world deep in the Outer Rim Territories, bordering the Ojoster sector on grid coordinates N7. Nevertheless, Taris had been crippled through an orbital bombardment thousands of years ago, showing deep scars with the entire planet covered in a wasteland of toppled structures. Overflowing with a population of smugglers and pirates, the planet is cozy home to the ugliest scum in the region. With no standing government, it appears as if the planet has been left to rot as the Republic attempts to overlook the rising interest in the planet. After a brief recollection of historical data, the Supreme Chancellor has commanded the four-hundred and fifty seventh corps be pulled from Geonosis and rerouted to the Ojoster sector. Intelligence believes that Commerce Guild presidente Shu Mai has established a Commerce Guild incursion of the planet, grinding a small band of Separatist forces on the surface. It is obvious that their numbers are well beyond that necessary to capture the system, however the credibility of the units has led the Republic to believe the Commerce Guild is interested in what the planet holds rather than the pit of filth itself. Concealing themselves deep within the undercity to avoid the watchful Republic eyes overhead, it is believed they are attempting to revive the Rakghoul plague encountered on Gand. During the Tarisian Civil War in 403 BTC, the lower class citizens had been banished to the undercity - a warm, damp collection of sickly inhabitants and decay. The Rakghoul plague had quickly overtaken the unarmed beggars, overflowing the lower levels with an epidemic threatening to bring Taris to its knees. It was believed the bombardment of the system in 3 BTC had wiped out the major native population, including the monsters inhabiting the underworld of the planet - with a Separatist strike team wreaking havoc as they push towards the lower levels of the planet, we can only assume their intentions. The corps has pulled to the system only to be greeted by an unwelcoming defense grid. The Commerce Guild had left a mess of LaserWeb Planetary Defense stations upon landing. The Republic fleet successfully moved through the field, although navigation is limited. Thick interference has limited transmissions, and the harsh terrain has halted progress. We cannot land, which has required our squads to fully air-drop in at the front door. Move in small teams and push deeper into the wreck of the planet.
Mission 11.1: Toppling the Towers
Mission Briefing: CIS Droid Marksmen seem to be installed within particular buildings and clumped together in corresponding towers. As the majority are clumped in the same area, toppling a single tower could quite possibly eliminate the problem. Establish a staging ground at the upper city and utilize heavy weaponry to level the tower. Aim towards the base!
The CIS was trying to revive the Rakghoul plague again- didn't they learn their lesson on Gand? The 457th was sent to stop the buggers on the destroyed world of Taris, a planet struggling to pick themselves up after an orbital bombardment many years prior.
As the 316th air-dropped in, they were picked off by Droid Snipers positioned in towers all over the city. My squad and I (codenamed 'Pterosaur Team' for this mission) decided to elminate the problem. As command informed us, the towers were very close together and that toppling one could solve the sniper problem. Surprisingly it worked. We are currently combing the ruins, searching for any surviving droids.
Mission 11.2: Repairing the Generators
Mission Briefing: The damage imposed by your previous objective has left the structure of the sector in severe jeopardy. Such a frail and unstable environment had crumbled the structure, toppling the entire tower and taking a sizable portion of other stations as well. With the 316th legion currently engaged with CIS loyalist Durge, the skirmishes throughout the city have damaged the central structure of the area. We have strove to restore power to the supports throughout the city, and such a quarrel between two opposing forces has quickened our pace. When the supercontinent of Taris housing the massive city had been bombarded only three years before the Treaty of Coruscant, the Central Energy Core had been damaged beyond repair, with sub-generators damaged as well. These generators had been used to keep the repulsorlift cells present on several buildings active, although when the power source was knocked out, the city has threatened to crumble and flatten itself. Divert from the main force and reactivate the generators - we have dispatched a segment of the 38th Combat Engineer Battalion to assist you.
It turns out that destroying those towers might not have been such a good idea after all- the city is now crumbling. Command sent us to the Middle City with the 38th Combat Engineer Battalion to repair the sub-generators that would help hold the city in place.
It was pretty boring, so Pterosaur team used the Engineer's astromech to view the city structure map. Over half of it was red, which means that those buildings would topple without powered repulsorlifts.
Whilst the team viewed other areas, I contacted some other soldiers in the 457th to see what they were up to: Sergeant Sly is preparing to hold-off Durge at the gate to the lower city, Lieutenant Creb is searching for the traitor who betrayed the Republic and Major Rain is on a CIS ship rescuing a Jedi. Hopefully once this is done we will see some action.
One of the Engineers finally got the generator repaired, but the thing popped right back into its panel and the Engineer was sent flying. He seemed OK though. Now for the next mission.
Mission 11.3: Pursuit
Mission Briefing: Intelligence has collected the information necessary to determine the location of bounty hunter Durge as he attempts to escape the lower cities of Taris. We have gathered valid intel which states that the bounty hunter is planning on using the abandoned swoop track formerly referred to as the "Tarisian Season Opener" as an escape route, which will eventually lead out of the city to a rendezvous point where an extraction team is waiting for him. The enemy is currently moving with a squad of IG Lancer Units mounted on Swoop Bikes, traveling apparently undetected along the empty track. Due to their ignorance, you have been advised to create an ambush and pursue him using Biker-Advanced Recon Commando Speeders though the race course, and intercept the bounty hunter and his remaining company before he arrives at the rendezvous point. You are to attempt to apprehend your target and bring him into custody, keeping in mind his abilities - do not underestimate his power. Nevertheless, the 707th have seized control of the Tarisian Major Ground Highway which may allow our troops to thoroughly move about the city.
The Separatist Commander in charge of the assault on Taris was none other than Durge- a ruthless Gen'Dai Bounty Hunter. The Sergeants of the 316th attempted to stop him at the gate to the Lower City but he managed to evade them. Luckily the 707th had gained control of the Tarisian Major Ground Highway and the Republic had some BARC Speeders for us to use.
Pterosaur Team prepared an ambush along the track and rigged areas with explosives. When Durge and his Lancer Droids arrived we attempted to stop them but ultimately just decided to detonate the bombs. By the will of the force they would not detonate. Snatcher and I didn't waste any time figuring out what had happened and instead mounted our speeders and pursued the Droids and Durge.
As I caught up with one of the Droids, I heard an explosion. Once I had finished with the Droid and determined that Durge had escaped I returned to our ambush site. Jumper had been killed when the bombs went-off. We never did figure out why they were delayed.
The Bounty Hunter escaped, but at least the 3 of us can finally leave this place.
