So, I was browsing some old computer files lately, and found a bunch of creations from my pre-MOCpages era. Most of them stink, but hey, we've all gotta start somewhere, and some of them are actually pretty decent creations, for the age I built them. I'll post a new one each day untill an old, big, holiday-themed contest entry on Christmas! The main pic will be of the most recent entry. I'll try to update it daily, but no promises. I am posting a "reminder" page every day with one picture of that day's MOC. It will link back here for anyone who wants to to see more pictures and comment. The reminder pages will be deleted after a day.
Day 1: HAM-V
Sit stands for Heavily Armed Multifunction Vehicle. I think it's pretty well armored, with three deployable weapons.
Day 2: Bot the Bot
A little yellow robot. I had dreams of making some sort of comic about him, I never did. The closest I ever got was building a basic wrestling ring for him. Dark pictures are dark.
Day 3: Camera Holder
I need to keep my sister's camera elevated and still for photography. It worked... for the most part.
Day 4: Green Monster
I was really proud of this when I made it. Anyone else think I should rebuild/revamp it whith some sand-green Ben 10 parts?
Day 5: Flower Power Helicopter
When my sister sold me her Belville lego, I built this.
Day 6: Cute Little Menaces
Day 7: Personal Space Ships
I love how these things look. Even worse pictures than usual, though.
Day 8: Piano
Yeah, pretty basic.
Day 9: Lariska
I went though a period where I loved the Lariska character, so I built her.
Day 10: Silver Rahkshi
Available in two sizes! I don't have the silver Rahkshi heads from Roodaka, so I improvised. I'm pretty proud of the torso even now.
Day 11: VBS Tower
Years ago, my church didn't have a children's minister, so my mom was put in charge of VBS. The theme was Cosmic City. Her decorating team bailed at the last minute, and she asked me to build something Sci-Fi-ish as a certerpiece for the lobby. It's not well-built at all, but it was impressive enough for my age, and about as tall as I was then.
Day 12: Vehicles
Lots os small vehicles I built in a building spree. I'm only posting one or two pictures of each, but I have tons, should you want more.
Day 13: BuzzyBee
Little helicopter thing.
Day 14: Dark Serpent Thing
Day 15: Ogre of Metru Nui
Guess what big, dark-green set I had just gotten?
Day 16: Green Transformer
Isn't it pitiful?
Day 17: Brontar
My biggest humanoid to date, I think. Yes, I replaced my face with an Akaku using my terrible Gimp skills. Yes, for some reason I took all of his pictures with games. I had some sort of story when I made him about him being Botar's species, but I can't really remember now.
Day 18: Golden Dude with Vehicle
I remember getting really exited when I figured out how to use a Zamor launcher in a torso. That idea spawned this MOC.
Day 19: Dinosaur Castle
I built this trying to make a "playset", if you will. It had a secret room and lots of little vehicles. It was also very fragile.
Day 20: Electric Toa Drag Racer Thing
I wish I had pictures of it from another angle, but this is all I've got.
Day 21: Fenrakk Dragon and Golden Knight
OK, the Knight is sad and unoriginal, but the dragon may be my favorite of all the advent MOCs. I made the head and neck first, so that it fires a blunt launcher when the mouth opens! Not when it closed, like the silly Ninjago dragons. The body is wimpy compared to the head, but really I just wanted a good base to display the function.
Day 22: Old Rock Band
I loved this! It was one of my first motorized MOCs. In retrospect, they look terrible, but still, the mechanics are cool. And yes, I did get the idea for Motorized Ringo Starr from these. The picture up top doesn't show the drummer, he's only in the videos.
I can't figure out how to post Vimeo videos here. You can see MOC in motion here and here. If you know how to post the videos, please leave a comment!
Day 23: Plane
Almost done! It has a trigger in the back to fire the blunt launchers.
Day 24: Santa and Rudolf
The last one! Built for a holiday Lego competion a long time ago. I really like Rudolf's head, but the rest is OK as well, for my age then.
Bonus! A poinsettia my sister made for the same contest.
Thank you to everyone who followed this advent from day one and stayed with it. I appreciate it. It was a trip down memory lane for me, and hopefully you enjoyed it while I couldn't actually make new MOCs. Now that my backlog of random parts are all sorted out I can continue MOCing as per usual, after the Christmas traveling is over.
If you don't mind, I have a few questions of you all. Should I do a similar advent next year, maybe with character or self-MOC mix-ups? Were the "reminder pages" a good idea, or just annoying? Most importantly, should I change my screen name? I started out as "The Lego Obsessionist," now just "Lego Obsessionist." It's a bit of a mouthful, though, and the "lego" bit is pretty much implied by the sites I use it on. Maybe if I was just "Obsessionist", or added Sir or Toa in front of it? Thanks to anyone who wants to offer their opinion on these.
Well your pre-mocpages era was cerainly better than mine :D I was horrid. I built nothing custom, and pretty much made up no techniques. Plus, I never saw any cool techniques, so I was pretty much pitiful.
Quoting Gringat the Repugnant
I'd suggest copy-pasting the previous page into the next MOC you post each time. No? I like how instead of the expected guns and mortars, it has a mace. :P
I'm not sure I understand what you mean. I may copy and past the update I put here into an all-new page linking back here for comments, and then delete the new page the next day. Is that what you meant at all?
Quoting Tor Lund
WOW-nice,I didn't really understand about what we had to comment on? help!?
You don't have to comment on anything, of course, but I'd really apricciate your opinion on me making a MOC page every few days that links back here, kind of as a reminder and/or update on the advent. Mainly, though, just comment on the actual MOCs.
