For the Porsche Racing Team, Kastenwagen meaning "box van" in German... and here I was expecting something more... profound??
About this creation
As "demanded" (okay, I admit it, I volunteered for this nonsense =P)by De Tomaso Pantera for aiding his Transporter. I mean, he can't fit EVERYTHING in that thing, even if it is over 100 some studs in length(don't hold me to that statement =P ). So here it is, the L408 Kastenwagen. Oh and this is all Ape Fight's fault. Hey, everyone else has blamed him =).
Slight Edit: There is steering from a knob or the rear bumper, and a flat4 with no access =/.
Dat front view
Those evil, evil sliding doors. They slide, but they aren't "held" "properly" when they're closed.
This thing drives like a giant superball. It's overeactive and bouncy.
Those double doors look suspicious.
Could they be hiding some goodies???
Well, of course! I mean, seriously, who could resist FILLING the box van? =)
Ladder(keep in mind that this all fits inside)
Bucket of "L" shaped tubing
Crate of dynamite
Air compressor & hand cart for it
Bottles of neon orange liquid that glow under blacklight(?)
4 spare tires & rims.
Spare steering wheel
A whole bunch of pipes
A spare 917 engine (flat 12, of course)
A crate with fog lamps for a 911 rally car
A tool chest
And there it is... the mess.
Crates open and tools can slide out a bit. Also, some spare glasses. Yes I did think of a lot of junk to cram in here.
Porsche 917 engine.
A spare engine, with no protective crate. Stuffed under racing wheels and large boxes. Brilliant...
A pic of the empty space. Getting everything back in here is like the world's angriest game of Tetris. I can't wait!
Those comfy box van seats.
That akwardly angled box van steering wheel (mandatory, adjusting it for comfort will be punished by making you load this van. And making EVERYTHING fit in right. MWAHAHA!)
I was thinking about the sliding door. Yesterday I saw a video on the official LEGO Creator side showing how to make sliding doors for buildings. They were working with some special sliding parts that could work well on your van, too. And they are available in red color: http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=30586
I do really like this! I would have built it myself but I refuse to buy any more red Lego. I now understand why the Porsches won LeMans! It's that crazy neon orange liquid they put in the fuel tank lol
That's a great van! I remember the times when there were many, many of these vans on German streets. It's instantly recognizable. You added some cool details and Technic functions. My favourite part is the sliding door. And then there are the goodies, especially the engine. Great job! :-))
Chinchilla Chuckles! This looks great! I love all the gubbins in the back. Some rather random funny stuff there! The engine looks cool, but not as good as mine:-P Porsche will be finished tonight but I'm waiting for decals for it :-) Can't wait to see the 911. Oh and I didn't know this van had front sliding doors of doom lol
