Oni walker
First entry for the Nova Refuge Zygbar and Yavakaro VDC: the Oni walker prototype
About this creation
An ultralight walker/Infantry support platform manufactured for the Yavakaro mech corps.

The gold plated "box" at the rear of the vehicle houses its communications, terrain and neural interface suites. While gold isn't really an official color of the Yavakaro faction you can just imagine it's yellow... The crimson design on the front designates it's link with the crimson steel; an elite walker battalion that field tests many new prototypes. It will eventually be replaced with a purple design if it is excepted into the Yavakaro military.

Close up of the chase area. As it is mainly used for military police operations in urban areas, the Oni walker comes with built in indicator, flood and break lights. Gotta obey dem road rules. The lights can easily be replaced with opaque steel paneling for night and reconnaissance missions. The part holding the chain gun in place was originally one of those "fire extinguisher top" pieces but I had to augment it to allow the weapon systems full movement. The silver device below the chain gun is the terrain sensor package and the dome behind that, just below the indicator, is the class 3 joint radar and jamming device. Both these devices are essential for field recon missions and make the Oni walker one of Yavakaro's best light scouting vehicles.

While the Oni walker is small and incredibly fast, it lacks the agility and natural balance of other reverse jointed walkers, relying on complex changes in weight distribution to turn corners. The relative lack of balance has kept the Oni walker in prototype stage for years. To compensate for this, the already large feet are equipped with retractable claws; able to grip surfaces and increase the walkers turning speed, while the large feet assist in balancing the vehicle. The crimson steel see this more as a perk than a disadvantage; using the claws and foot size to "pin" heavily armored infantry to the ground, either crushing them or emptying hundreds of rounds into the weak points of their armored suits. This unorthodox strategy has worked on targets as large as Xarkon exo-suits.

The open cockpit design, while leaving the pilot open to small arms fire, gives him/her a far better field of view. A neural interface helmet is required to control the walker fully as there is only room for basic directional, speed and fire controls. The weapon turns to face the direction the pilot is facing and uses auto-targeting software for fine aim adjustments.

A reference image to give a good idea of the walkers scale. The pilot is armed with a hold out weapon strapped to the side of the walker. This photo shows the long range communications antenna necessary for relaying information far from Yavakaro satellites or relay hubs.

This is pretty-darn neat! Not only does it look fast, agile, and lean, it looks stinkin' awesome! Perfect for reconnaissance missions! Great job!

I like it! One thought, if the driver is going to be so exposed, a seriously over the top armour suit would not be unwelcome.

BTW any feedback, good or bad, would be extremely helpful for the contest. Thanks :)
