Adrion grew into a strong young man, attentively learning of woodscraft from his elders in the forestmen encampment and climbing trees with his friends. At the age of nineteen, he had become one of the village's strongest hunters.
Adrion stands atop a short cliff in the forest, aiming at a deer that his father, Marron had been chasing to his son's location.
He took careful aim, and the deer lay transfixed with an arrow through its heart.
Adrion climbs down to inspect his deer.
Marron: "Ho, Adrion! An excellent shot, I see!"
Marron: "I must show something to thee, my son."
Marron: "You see these tracks? I have trailed them all the way here from our food stores; something has been stealing away with our resources as we sleep. I would have tracked the beast all the way to its lair, but I'm afraid that my old age won't permit any hostile encounter I may have on my journey into the thicker region of the forest."
"Would you trail this beast and locate our missing resources?"
The girl Eron grew healthily under her mother's care in the Broken Sword inn. Early on, it was discovered from her singing as a child that her music had a magic quality. At sixteen years, she was given a flute made of beautiful Chandelwood, and since she has learned soothing songs to play that settle the many patrons of her father's tavern, preventing drunken brawls from ever breaking out.
Patron 1: "That Raloff is damned clever to keep luring us in here with that daughter of his' music."
Patron 2:"Aye, at least he lowers his ale prices for the number of regulars that flood in for the sounds of that flute."
An old dwarf approaches Eron.
Fakhlar: "I hear your magic notes calm the crowd in the room, young bard. Very few have this talent, very few I can ask to help me. In my line of work as the Royal Herbalist, I am facing a very tough dilemma. Count Maralk has recently gone quite mad; he is unable to govern this city at all. I have attempted to use all of the herbal madness cures I know, but none have succeeded so he must constantly be kept unconscious. His council has left his advisor in charge, but though his words are wise, he cannot cope with the responsibility of truly ruling the town, and so I must request that you prepare a song to fend off his madness and allow him to rule again. Will you undertake this task, bard? If you choose to, then you can find me in the Royal Estate."
Garg lived well in Balrus' camp. He grew up with Balrus' true son, Pallaras, and oft did they compete in games of grappling, as was the way of barbarians.
Garg and Pallaras rush at each other in grappling positions.
They meet, arms locked.
Garg bests him, and pallarus lays on the ground, defeated.
Garg sees a figure in the distance.
The figure approaches, and it is seen that it is their father, Balrus.
Balrus: "Hello, sons. I see it is you that have won this time, Garg. As was decided by the outcome of this grapple, I have a task for you, Garg."
Balrus: "There is one a ways away from here that I encountered on the run I took this morning. He says he is from a tribe that call themselves the "Bull Kingdom".
Balrus: "Though the envoy claims that their so-called "kingdom" is the strongest force in the Barbary waistland, he says that they conquer through duels with tribe chieftans. Garg, I am quite sick. Though in my days of youth I would have never considered holding out on any duel, that virtue has deserted me. Here is my hand-axe. I would advise that you train with our raiders to develop a feel for using it."
Garg receives the hand-axe.
Balrus: "Once you are trained in use of this axe, I command that you meet the envoy and request battle with their king. We will not fall."
