Blast was lifted onto a stretcher and carried away to the medical center and moved onto a cold metal bench attached to the wall in a small, individual room.
On the way, Padfoot had explained about Blast’s disease to Charge and Flare and now they all stood with the unconscious Blast. The other leaders were still in the hall clearing up the scrap metal that had been the droid forces.
“He needs his specialist treatment. We were on our way to Coruscant for help when we were shot down here.” Padfoot was saying.
“So you say he was taking injections to stop himself from changing?” Charge asked.
“Yes that’s right.”
“But his drug was lost when you crashed?”
“Yes. It was stored in glass tubes and they all smashed on the deck.”
“Wait; You said they smashed on the deck?” Flare questioned.
“Yes.” Padfoot replied, wondering where this was getting them.
“Then there must be some sort of residue left. We could go and get as much as possible and I could analyze it and reproduce it.”
“Yes! Brilliant!” Padfoot congratulated him. “Right, come with me.” Padfoot lead the way out of the room.
“Excuse me. I have matters to attend to in my office.” Charge excused himself and walked away towards his private study
leaving Padfoot and Flare to run back to The Manipulator and collect as much of what was left of Blast’s medicine as possible.
Back on the bench in the medical center, Blast lay staring with wide glazed-over eyes at the ceiling, but not really seeing it. Blast was the only person in the center.
A slight breeze wafted through the room. Strange, a small part in the back of R.K.’s mind thought. The door was closed, there were no windows and the air vents were all closed over. Slowly he turned his head to his right to look over at the door and as he did so he spotted something moving on the floor. A swirl of pink was drifting around.
Gradually it grew up, getting bigger and bigger. Swirling faster and faster then in a final twirl it formed Bisvernicof.
“Greetings Blast.” He said and the U.R.S. leader smiled weakly in reply. “I see that once again you are in deep trouble.”
“Again.” Blast agreed with a small laugh at the thought.
“You haven’t done what you promised me Blast. You promised to end this war in whatever way necessary and it’s STILL going.”
“I’m trying.” Blast whispered. “I just need more time. I want this over as much as you do.”
“But it’s NOT!” The head of the OvaSeers hissed. “It’s still going and you’re STILL destroying this Galaxy! You’re running swiftly out of time.”
“I know I am!” Blast hissed back angrily and sat upright on his bench with his legs hanging out the side.
. “But how do you expect me to win the war with no time? And especially hampered by this!” Blast indicated to his mutating body. “This infection!”
“Damn your infection! Win this war Blast! If you don’t, I’ll go to Iadsgb! Don’t forget; I don’t give a Wamprat’s arse WHO wins this infernal war, just as long as it GETS finished.”
“I NEED MORE TIME!” Blast bellowed at him. Bisvernicof took a deep breath then continued in a quieter voice.
“I’ll make you a deal R.K.. I’ll temporarily cure your infection, enough to last you through the war and I want you to take this as your last chance. If you fail this time, I’ll have to take matters into my own hands. I thought you would end the war in a more civilized manner. You appeared to be more human. Kinder. But I forgot. Being human also makes you weak. Maybe Iadsgb would have been a better choice. So if you fail this time; I will go to him.”
Blast bit his bottom lip as he thought about it then said “Okay. Deal.”
“Good choice. Now. Your infection. Hold still.”
Blast sat as still as he possibly could as the OvaSeer closed his eyes and stretched his arms out before him, palms facing Blast.
The U.R.S. leader also closed his eyes as a brilliantly blinding white light beamed from Bisvernicof’s palms like a spotlight that shined on Blast.
The light seemed to be brightest over the mutated parts of Blast’s body and slowly but surely the green scales started to lessen in colour and slowly returned to normal. The light faded and both beings opened their eyes.
“There. That will last you until the war is over. You will not need to take any injections or medication but as soon as you end the war I suggest you get medical treatment from the specialists.” Bisvernicof took a step back and Blast examined himself.
“Thank you. I will not fail this time.”
“You’d better not.” Bisvernicof smiled but suddenly turned serious and listened to something Blast couldn’t hear. “You’re comrades are returning. I will leave now. Make sure you stay true to your promise.”
“I will.” Blast replied.
“Good. I’ll be watching. As always.” The OvaSeer smiled and started to disappear.
“Wait!” Blast called, suddenly remembering something and the OvaSeer returned.
“I just remembered. Thank you for the maps.”
Bisvernicof looked confused.
“The maps of the F.I.S. base on Hoth that we received, signed by you.”
The OvaSeer frowned. “I didn’t send any maps.”
The door opening then interrupted their conversation and Bisvernicof disappeared in the blink of an eye in his pink smoke as Padfoot and Flare returned.
“Blast?” Padfoot asked in surprise as he saw the U.R.S. leader was sitting up.
“I’m fine Padfoot.”
“But, you were mutating?”
“I know. But now I’m not. I’ve been cured.”
Padfoot frowned and the two looked at each other and knowing passed between them.
“Well that’s good, because we took as much residue as we could find, but there was nothing I could do with it.” Told Flare.
“Okay. Thank you for trying.” Blast smiled. The door opened again and Charge walked in.
“Hm… I see you have recovered.”
“Yes.” Blast said curtly. “Now; have you found the bodies of your fallen soldiers?”
“We have, yes. The droids had moved them into the canteen.” Flare replied. “Your Falcon made the discovery.” Blast nodded.
“Have there been any signs of more droid forces on the way?”
“Fortunately not. No.”
“Good. Then as soon as we can, we should contact the republic and call for assistance.” Blast slipped off of his bench and picked up his helmet.
“It’s already been done.” Charge said. “I’ve just done it. They are sending a new garrison of fresh troops for me to train up to be the start of my new legion.”
“Well that’s all good then. And as soon as they arrive, we can be out of your hair. Now, let’s go and see how the others are doing in the clean-up.” Blast walked from the room followed by Padfoot, Charge and Flare.
