(2012-03-12) ESS "Thor" - nano scale "Destroyer" LDD
nano scale destroyer class star ship
About this creation
Fiction? Well since this is a standard Destroyer class vessel I really ought to dummy up some stats hey?

ESS Thor (Earth Star Ship).

The Thor is the first of a new class of Star Ships developed by Andros Corporation in the Early 27th Century. It features a bridge area set high at the rear of the vessel, directly above the main drive system, a plasma based thrust engine developed for range rather than speed. The Thor may not be a sprinter, but it packs one hell of a punch.

The primary weapon is a huge 1 kilometre long particle accelerator. The weapon fires in the forward arc only and gives a single, massive, stream of highly agitated neutrinos at its target. On impact the beam literally strips molecules apart shredding hull plating like tinfoil. The Thor also features 24 fighter bays on its lower hull, each outfitted with a Piranha fighter for defence. The upper hull and command tower feature close to 100 independently targeting pulse cannons, used as a defensive screen against fighter craft. They are capable of being linked together to give an devastating broadside to any enemy vessel of similar or larger class.

Steering is provided by multiple thruster ports across both the upper and lower hull, however acceleration and forward momentum are achieved via the plasma driver. The Thor can achieve a top speed of approximately 1/10 the Speed of light. Since inter stellar journeys would take months if not years, the Thor is usually assigned to Terran Space defensive missions, though the ship is outfitted to make use of warp gate technology without damage or significant loss of power, a critical flaw of 25th century capital craft.

Shielding is provided by a class 5 electro-magnetic ray field. More than capable of resisting strikes by micro-meteors, ballistic missiles and lasers. Shielding is concentrated around the bridge, frequently leaving the Thor's main weapon and engine vulnerable to counter attack.

Overall length: 1010 metres
Overall height(bridge): 70 metres
Crew Compliment: 250
Fighter Support: 24
Escape pods: 100
Range: 3 light years
Alignment: Earth Stellar Navy (Earth Ship yards)
Date Commissioned: 16 December 2630
Commander: Dolf Olderson

Additional: The Thor is named after the norse god of thunder and is so named because of the "electric" discharge of the main weapon. Said to strike like the "hammer of the gods" few vessels in its class can withstand a direct hit. The Nordic connection is carried over to the Commander Dolf Olderson who is of German/Norwegian decent.

Dolf Olderson is noted as being a capable commander and a dangerous opponent. Rumours exist that he is being groomed for the admiralty. If true it would make him the youngest admiral in the fleet, in 2630 he was only 21 years old and is notorious as being one of the fastest promoted Fleet commanders in the 200 year history of the Earth Stellar Navy. Despite his youth, he is a stable and confident leader.

Quoting Rabid Goldfish Nice destroyer. Although it's actually about 9 studs long. I'd love to see a Gimp of the main cannon firing. ^Blub^
9? no seriously the main body is only 5 bricks long, even adding 2 for the main weapon that makes 7 max.

Quoting Rich Collins... 257th Wolf About how big would this thing be IRL?
if it was made with actual bricks? about 6 bricks long. If it was a real vehicle, I couldn't say about 1,000 feet give or take.
