6857 "Dynamic Duo Funhouse Escape" Set Review
A set review I've done for my recent purchase of the "6857 Dynamic Duo Funhouse Escape" set from the DC Superheroes line. Please comment, rate and enjoy!
About this creation

Well this is the box. Nice and clear. Set number 6857 from the Superheroes range. It's called "The Dynamic Duo Funhouse Escape." ... rather a mouthful if you ask me but there again, all of LEGO's Batman sets have been like that! Recommended age of 7-14 and yeah, I'd say that's about right.

When you open the box, this is what you get. 3 Bags, a sticker sheet, 2 loose track pieces, an instruction booklet and another issue of the comic. The comic once again isn't brilliant. There are no words and lots of the pictures seem to be the same as in other issues (This being issue 1). It's rather hard to understand and is clearly based at builders on the younger end of the scale. The background picture on the instruction booklet is a bit clearer than on the box and is actually quite detailed when you examine it!

You ALSO get, witch I was rather pleased about, is a new-style LEGO brick separator thrown in for free! Not much different to the old style other than it now has a Technic pin on the top and is a bit smaller than the old one. Personally I actually prefer the size of the old one!

So, once you've build everything you get this. A Joker-style funhouse, a Batbike and a tub of chemicals plus 5 AMAZING figures!

Here is a closer look at the Batbike. The Bat-symbol on the front is a sticker. It's quite small but a nice design, easily maneuverable.

The fins on the back raise and lower.

Now, one thing I was disappointed in was the lack of pieces actually in the tub of chemicals. This is what you ACTUALLY get rather than what's shown on the box. Still, it's a nice purple barrel and a fish.

The gate near the bottom of cart track swings in the center, splitting The Joker's face in half. The face again, is a sticker.

A view of the back of the Funhouse. My only complaint about the Funhosue itself is that the base is a little flimsy.

A great thing about this set is that it comes with an extra Riddler head that sits in a case! Although there is in fact a mistake. The box art shows the old-style Riddler head when in fact you just get a duplicate of the head used on the figure. Not the it matters that much, it's still great!

This is the feature that pushes the cart off down the track. Just a simple push-pin. Nothing special there. At least they've made it look nice.

This is the cart itself. Quite nicely designed. Very compact. Big enough for just one person.

Here you can see the knob you turn to swing the giant mallet. A nice play feature that will surely amuse younger builders more so than older ones. The "WATCH OUT!" sign at the back is a sticker. The fence at the bottom of the picture is a new piece that I rather like.

Here's the knob that twists the middle platform. The panel has Harley's red and black squares pattern on it. Not sure why this feature is there other than it's supposedly a Funhouse and they have moving floors. The lights and curtain at the bottom of the picture is once again a sticker.

This is the pin you pull out for the trapdoor to open. Same design as always.

This feature actually works quite well... sometimes. Turn the wheel and the rope rises or lowers. It generally only works if Robin or another figure is dangling from the end of the rope, otherwise it's not heavy enough to do anything and the wheel doesn't do anything. The "DANGER AHEAD" sticker you can just about see below is, yup you guessed it, a sticker too.

Now onto the best part of this set. The 5 AMAZING figures! You can see you get Batman in his comic-book costume, Robin based on the character of Red Robin, The Joker looking as fabulous as ever, Harley Quinn The Joker's devoted sidekick and girlfriend and The Riddler looking as puzzling as ever. Harley and The Riddler are both exclusive to this set!

This is the back of Batman. He has back printing and a reversible head to show.. a grimace or a grin? What is it? You choose I suppose, it's LEGO. Use your imagination.

The back of Robin, again he has back printing and a reversible head to show a scream.

Here is The Joker's back. Once more he has a little bit of back printing and a duel-sided head.

The back of Harley who as I said before is exclusive to this set at the moment. She has a lot of back printing and a duel-sided head.

This is the back of The Riddler. As with all of the others he has back printing but this time he has NOT got a duel-sided head due to the fact he's wearing a hat the doesn't cover the back of his head!

These are the accessories you get. Two batarangs, two sets of handcuffs, a detonator device of some kind and a crowbar. I love the crowbar because it's quite clearly a reference to the comic book issue in which The Joker beats the second Robin (Jason Todd) nearly to death using a crowbar and then blows him up (The detonator device.).

Here are the parts you end up with left over as spares at the end of building.

Now then... This part (The black piece in the center of the picture)... does NOTHING. I don't know why it's there at all. It just sits there. It looks like it was once meant to do something but they scrapped it, accidentally leaving this piece there in the process. Because it turns around on a Technic pin but is not attached to anything at all! And I double checked the instructions and I didn't make a building mistake, so I don't know what it is.

Playability Factor:10/10
Value For Money:9/10

This is a BRILLIANT set with lots of play features great for younger builders. The figures are AMAZING, especially with two of them being exclusive to this set. The build is very good but not great and overall, I love it! I also like the little 'nod' to the comics in the inclusion of a detonator and a crowbar. Well worth it's £39.99 price tag.
I HIGHLY recommend this set to EVERYONE! Especially Batman fans.

Thanks for viewing, I hope this has been useful. Please comment, rate and enjoy!

Great review! That black piece is meant to stop that gear so that the hook does not slip down when you don't want it to.
