Rodimus Primal
Future leader of the Autobots just got wild and predatory! It's Rodimus Prime with the primal rage!
About this creation

Many, many years ago... My
Neo Hot Rod
propelled to the limelight through
. But recently I found out this MOC of mine looks
pretty dated and chunky especially when being displayed next to my recent
creations. For fellow Transformers fans, Hot Rod is the destined leader of the
Autobots , known as Rodimus Prime. So I guess that's good enough a reason for me
to "upgrade" my Neo Hot Rod to become just that, and more.

I'm never a person that likes to imitate , but rather... I take each and
every opportunity to recreate current toys/character from Transformers lore
using LEGO in my own special ways . And in hope each and every attempt in doing
so would get your approval :)

So this time around...

I'm not going to write tons of stuff exposing what you will be seeing. I'll
explain adequately as you scroll down and view each and every photos in this
page :)

Vehicle Mode with "Trailer"

Instead of having a HUGE winnebago with hidden weapons  hitched on to
his back (like in the original Rodimus Prime G1 toy), Rodimus Primal has no
intention of hiding his armaments.  The idea is to let the opponents know
how heavily armed you are prior to battle.

Cannons can tilt  and aim to almost any direction

Jet Mode

One huge mistake in past/current Transformers cartoon series is.... many
Autobot leaders doesn't have the airborne advantages . I'm going to change this
"rule of engagement". Without the trailer separating from the main (futuristic speedster)
vehicle.. it converts into air-technology allowing Roddy to finally fly with

Under the vehicle, you can see how the cannons are able
to end up in front of Rodimus Primal's vehicle front, WITHOUT manual
detachment and re-attachment.

Speedster Mode

Unhitched from his trailer, Roddy is in his usual sleek self.

The art of hiding robot head inside vehicle windshield
is , NEVER to have it facing forward looking out (looks creepy).

From the side profile.... it's nearly touching the
ground. This is why later on you'll see why Roddy's torso is pretty flat
looking coz I can't put anymore decorative tiles on it.

The protruding black C-clip on the vehicle back is the
connecting points to the earlier trailer. They're very strong indeed. I
can pick up the main vehicle with trailer from any end and dangle..
and both will not separate.

Robot Mode

Although I prefer to exhaust to be folded in neatly
(right arm) .. but it looks "harmless". The elongated exhaust /weapon is
still much more kick-ass.

Eagled eye viewers will notice something underside the
vehicle in earlier photos. Yes... you are correct... it's the "Primal
Matrix" . Notice the flames on it. PS: Don't take my word for it....
this thingamajig doesn't exists in the official Transformers

On a technical side, I must use such a rounded tile (with printed
"flame") here to depict the Matrix because of the following reasons:

  • A non-printed one is  bland looking (A typical Matrix is
supposed to have a "hole" in it)

  • A rounded part with stud will scrape the ground when I roll the
    vehicle back and forth.

Yes..... he can NOW wield the matrix with both his
hands. Take that, Unicron!!

Trailer / Weapons Base

The original trailer from official G1 Rodimus Prime toy opens up to reveal a
cannon , which Roddy himself can operate by standing right in front of it
(that's the best he can do with his articulation) . Since this is the core function of the
trailer... I'm doing a homage to it by allowing my trailer to have the same
function as well.

Although both cannons can reach up to Roddy's shoulder
level, but the hinges on his arms are not strong enough to hold them
straight/pointing up. Those cannons are very heavy in my Transformers MOC universe.
I guess he can only shoot rabbits on ground level when manning this
personalized weapons base of his.

Primal Modes

You all must be wondering , why I name my MOC as  Rodimus Primal instead of Rodimus
Prime. Is is just because of the Matrix with apparent "flames" on it that I used
? Here's the real reason....

Yes.... the "Primal Matrix" not only bestow great powers
to its Chosen One... but it gives them an extra Primal/Beast Mode.
Rodimus Primal transforms into a prehistoric era Scorpion (yes.. back
them... this animal had only 4 legs with bulging belly compared to its
modern counterpart).

Same goes for the trailer... it transform into an
insect-like drone which Roddy can control within 2000 miles of each

Awesome dude, I really like how you did the trailer. It gives Rodimus a much more FOC look than the G1 "Space Winnebago". In all, Awesome job and keep at it.

8 freaking modes!? That's crazy awesome, but the insect modes threw me off. I mean they are good, but for a character like this you'd expect something like a lion, tiger, gorilla( mostly because he has Primal in his name), or even a super robot mode. Other than the two insects I really like this.

I think that Rodimus Primal needs a different Beast Mode, that he needs a Maximal badge, and that he also needs to have his trailer incorporate more into his body (think of the additions from the first few Mega Man X/Rock Man X for inspiration), Yap. The reason that I said what I said about his Beast Mode is, well, there's already a scorpion in the Transformers universe and his name is Scorponok and, well, he's a Predicon and that doesn't look too good for a Maximal. Also, there's a king crab that's a Predicon, so that's out, too. If I were you, I'd go back to the drawing board on his Beast Mode. However, with that being said, the fact that he looks pretty good in his normal mode and the fact that he can change into FOUR modes with minimal reassembly is actually pretty cool.

I absolutely love this. I have always liked hot rod/rodimus in robot mode but never liked his vehicle mode. This however is awesome. Excellent build, colours, techniques and playability. I also really enjoyed the poses and write up. Such a shame the the 'like' counter is not working.

wow, love the execution here, very well done. only thing that would have made it even better is if the trailer and robot combined in robot form, but that would be asking too much of an already awesome creation.

That's crazy cool in both engineering and design! 6 out of 5! This makes the original toy look like .... you know.. Take that Hasbro! Great MOC Alan!
