The P-UG1 short-range fighter, lovingly nicknamed "RePUGnant" by its pilots because it's just so ugly, is a powerful craft capable of taking on, and defeating, ships four or five times its size. Capable of operating in sub-orbital space, this durable workhorse is also a terrific scout craft because it's all engines and weapons; crew members always joke that the engineers felt navigation and life-support systems were options available only on the deluxe model, but the government decided to go with the standard model instead.
As much as I like space, you'd think that I'd eventually get good at it. Doesn't look that way, judging by this model. I've had the cockpit sitting on the build table since last September or so, then I finally decided yesterday to do something with it while waiting out a day of rain. I guess I'm just not a spacer in the "oh wow, look at that" mode -- but you can bet this beast will show up in an upcoming episode of Space Pirates!
Sometimes a complete lack of aesthetic appeal makes a ship appealing. It's not the most elegant fighter I've seen, but it is still an awesome contribution to the space genre in LEGO builds, and if you've seen any of my ships, you know that there is a warm and fuzzy place in my heart for the ugly duckling spaceship. Well done.
