Mav, a Marine contingent, and a squad of Cylons made the trip to Chicago in the Heavy Raptor!
About this creation
Lego fans from around the world descended upon Brickworld 2012, and Mav and the gang were there on their first ever public appearance! Above is a shot taken by TooMuchDew, one of the many admirers to pass by the display.
A huge thanks to our public relations agent, Tyler Halliwell, for arranging the appearance! One reason they decided to take the Heavy Raptor was Mr. Halliwell required over 2000 red tiles to complete his incredible Red Queen's Castle!

The diorama was located on Mr. Halliwell's personal display table at Brickworld. Thanks, Tyler!

Another fan pic from jmenomeno. Thanks!

A few shots prior to shipping out to Chicago. Corthay keeping an eye out.

Mav and the Cylon discussing strategy. Simon and Bonsch doing the heavy lifting.

The set was designed to be easily separated for transport.

SNOT engineering allowed convenient pin attachment between the halves, and stud attachment between the quarters.

The sections were then sandwiched and locked together. As you can see here, with the foliage removed, single studs were placed for the cast's standing positions. With the Lego, plus ten times the volume in styrofoam, the team was ready to launch!

Another cargo item was the Door Room for the VLUG Alice in Wonderland Display.

Another pic from Captain Redstorm. Thanks! Although a small part of the massive display, it was an honor to participate!

Awesome! That is a really cool setup, the raptor is excellent and those robots look great too. Interesting landcape too, miles beyond my own very modest attempt at a desert :-)
Not something I had ever done before, and it took a lot of trial and error. Of course most of it's flat for the raptor, so that kind of limited how high it was going to go. My favorite part is how it divided up for transport, otherwise there's no way it would have survived. Thanks for checking it out! |

Wow, you're in VirtuaLUG too?! I guess they'll let anyone in that club of ne'er-do-wells...=P ~H
I know, right?! It's the closest thing to the Delta House I could find in the world of Lego. "Who dropped a whole truckload of fizzies into the varsity swim meet? Who delivered the medical school cadavers to the alumni dinner? Every Halloween, the trees are filled with underwear. Every spring, the toilets explode." Thems are my kinda people! |

Studs Not On Top. I built the 40X40 layout with the studs facing the front. That way I could create the rock ledges, and not worry about tiling over them, leaving an annoying edge. It also made it easier, as demonstrated, to break the thing into four parts, and snap them together for strength. Remarkably sturdy, actually. Thanks for checking it out, and yes, the links are FULL of pics from the event! |

Lovely job. Surprisingly rough ride into Chicago. Thanks for not telling anyone I threw up inside the raptor, this time. (And yes, I did purposely aim for Bonsch's lap.)
Fortunately the inside of the ship is designed to be hosed out for that exact reason. And keg parties. Funny, the American and the German hard at work, and the Frenchman pretending to be looking out for the enemy... |
