After the portal closed, leaving Jordan in the Underworld, he turned on Nexus, kicking him in the face. Nexus was sent back reeling. Jordan beat upon the rocky wall where the portal had once been, trying to get out. Nexus leaped on his back and pulled him down. Jordan yelled in frustration and anger, he tried to conjure fire but he could not wield his element in the Underworld…unlike Nexus. Nexus was hosting the powers of Teridax making him stronger, physically and elementally, and since the Underworld was Teridax’s domain, Nexus could wield his elements freely. Jordan dodged blasts of Shadow mixed with Lightning, this way and that. Other Makuta surrounded them in an arena-like formation so he could not escape. Jordan was tiring, but as he got weaker, Nexus seemed to be getting stronger! Jordan was near desperation. He lunged at Nexus, tackling him to the ground. The other Makuta roared and moved in but Nexus barked at them in a strange Makuta tongue to stand back. Nexus grabbed Jordan’s skull with his hand but Jordan pulled it off before he could electrocute him. Jordan landed a fist in Nexus’s face but it seemed to have little effect aside from making him angrier. Nexus threw him down and conjured his sword out of Shadow and Lightning, and just as he was about to deliver the killing stroke, he was hit by a blast of misty darkness. He toppled head-over-heels into the crowd of Makuta. This time, Nexus seemed to have taken some damage. He got up, slowly and painfully. Nexus’s eyes shifted, looking around for where the blast came from. Then his eyes settled. He made a sound sort of a mix between a howl and a whimper as a white figure walked into the circle.
“You dog,” Nexus hissed, “how dare you show yourself here!”
The white figure was tall and muscular with blazing red eyes. Jordan took one glance at him and his whole body tensed.
“Leave the Toa alone, Nexus,” Catok said in a deep, calm voice, “you would not want to know what would happen if you harmed him…” his voice trailed off.
Nexus hesitated, but he didn’t back down.
“You have nothing Catok, you are nothing! I do not fear you.”
Catok seemed amused, but there was something in his eyes. Death.
Nexus grinned, thinking he had won the dispute.
“Leave Catok. And I will spare your life for another day.”
The ring of Makuta all grinned and began to move in on the giant.
Catok kneeled, in surrender, thought Jordan. He clenched his fists and whispered something.
A giant ring of misty darkness shot out from Catok, spreading in every direction like a large ripple. The ring sailed over Jordan’s head, striking all of the Makuta, except Nexus who was quick to dodge. The Makuta crumpled on spot, all color drained from their faces. This time, Jordan thought, they will not be coming back.
Nexus stared at Catok; his face had gone completely pale.
Catok cut him off.
“You get out of here or you will fare much worse then your comrades.”
Nexus straightened up to this challenge.
“You know what I am, who I work for. You have no chance of victory.”
Nexus re-conjured his sword and took a ready stance. Catok did the same. Off his back he pulled a twisted sword that looked like it had been carved out of bone.
Catok jumped at Nexus and Nexus swung, but just a millisecond too late. His blade whizzed right past Catok’s head and Catok’s sword sliced Nexus’s shoulder. Nexus bellowed in pain. He shot a blast of Lightning and Shadow from the tip of his sword but Catok dodged it easily, Nexus’s anger was clouding his vision. Nexus swung his sword in every direction trying to find Catok amidst the shadows but the white figure stayed clear of his blade. Nexus eventually gave up his fruitless attempt to snag Catok and fell to his knees.
“Where are you?” Nexus cried in desperation.
Nexus spun around just in time to see the flash of Catok’s blade. The next minute, Nexus’s head rolled to Jordan’s feet, it’s red eyes now blank. The treacherous demon was dead.
“Good to see you again Jordan,” Catok said. He stuck his blade into Nexus’s back and left it.
“Not sure if I can say the same of you,” Jordan said, taking a cautious step back.
Catok looked down at Nexus’s body as if trying to recall something.
“Oh yes,” he said somberly, “I remember…I tried to kill you. I was being manipulated. I had no control over what I did…I-I am sorry...”
“How do I know what you’re saying is true?”
“I just saved your life didn’t I?” he said gesturing to the corpse.
“Yes you did…Thank you.”
Catok walked up to him.
“Now listen, you want to get out of here right?”
“I think I may have a way of getting out of here, but you’ll have to trust me.”
“Do you trust me?” Catok asked, outstretching his hand.
“…Yes,” decided Jordan, taking Catok’s hand.
“Good,” said Catok, shaking Jordan’s hand firmly, “now you’ll have to be patient, it may take a while. It is a very delicate plan.”
“However long it takes. I want to go home.”
