Here's Horace the Hyacinth Macaw and his Friend Marky the Scarlet Macaw.
The Hyacinth Macaw is a parrot native to central and eastern South America. With a length of about 100 cm (3.3 ft) it is longer than any other species of parrot. It is the largest macaw and the largest flying parrot species, though the flightless Kakapo of New Zealand can outweigh it at up to 3.5 kg. The Kakapo is a bird I will be building soon :-)
Habitat loss and trapping wild birds for the pet trade has taken a heavy toll on their population in the wild, and as a result the species is classified as Endangered on the International Union for Conservation of Nature's Red List. Very sad :-(
Anyway enough facts I'll let Horace and Marky do the Squawking...
Horaces eyes are not quite right but it was the only way I could work out to get the yellow marking around them. They look quite comical I think.
He is basically the Same as Marky but I filled his body out and made him a bit longer. They are both about a third of the size of their real cousins.
"You squawking to me"?
Say bye bye Horace and Marky.......
Hope you like them they look great together don't they?
I want to build a Blue and Yellow Macaw to go with them :-)
If you like Horace, Marky and the rest of my birds and would like to own your favourite/s one day please follow this link LEGO Bird Project And take a couple of minutes to register and support my idea.
Sorry for the late comment, Tom. ;-) I really love these two birds; I can't decide which one I prefer, though. Very good shaping throughout. I hope this will bring (or has brought) you many more supports. -LB Jr.
3ft tall! Wow. He looks great - like all your birds, he has some personality. Looking forward to your kakapo, a fascinating bird I remember reading about in 'Last Chance to See' by Douglas Adams. If you haven't read this wonderful book (I suspect you have...) do it now!
Lovely sculpting, nice and colourful and full of character. I'm surprised and a bit embarrassed that I hadn't added such a talented fellow Brit as a fave before now, commented on your superb bird sculptures and also supported the Cuusoo project. Time to remedy all of the above!
He is beautiful. I must admit I prefer Marky due to his vibrant colours, but they do look fantastic perched together. I love the shot of them looking at each other – Is this your second set of love birds? ;) hahahaha.
Nice. You could try an inverted radar-dish 2x2 for a more stud-less eye. Something fancier (and not so purist) could be using a small yellow rubber-band. There are also some Technic parts (bushes and axle-joiners) which comes in yellow, and might be usefull for you...
A wonderful pair of birds! I like them both, they both have lots of nifty brickwork and nice feathers on the tails. The heads are also very neat, they look very realistic.
If you really want this Bird Project to get 10k, maybe you should look into getting one of them there yellow boxes outside a Lego store? Just an idea, I have no clue how to accomplish said task... =P
