Yes, I have built a Halo MOC. Don't hate me. On MOCpages, Halo has become fairly looked down upon as cliche building genre, thanks to Halo kiddies of the past. (and present, I guess) I understand the annoyance people have gotten with Halo - countless warthogs and such. Don't get me wrong, there's some really awesome lego 'hogs on the pages, but they tend to become lost among the vast quantities of lame ones. On Flickr, Halo is more common, but more often as these one-shot wonders that focus as much on the photography as the build, if not more. My interest in the Halo franchise really began a couple of months ago, when I got an XBOX360 for my birthday. (yus!) Since then, I've been planning to build some Halo MOCs, so I built an actual game map, Hemorrhage.
Hemorrhage began in Halo: Combat Evolved (Halo 1) as blood gulch, a large gorge with two bases. It returned in Halo 2 as Coagulation, and again Halo: Reach as Hemorrhage, a part of the Forgewrold. (where you can build your own maps)
This isn't, and isn't intended to be, a to-scale, identical copy of the map, but rather I have taken the map's main characteristics (grass, dirt path, cliffs with sniper nests, team bases) and put them on a 48x48 base plate.
I usually build Castle MOCs, a large part of which are made up of landscaping. Fortunately for me very little of Hemorrhage is structure, so this wasn't a particularly challenging build. I'll likely build some more Halo MOCs in the future, so that will give me a chance to develop my (non-existent) futuristic structure building skills.
Building 'figs isn't my strong point, ok. These took me two days.
...And that's it! I guess I might get some negative feedback for building Halo, but hey, I build for fun, and I enjoyed this build.
Man, I've already commented on this, but its so cool I must again! Your rockwork is beautiful, the base is great, the land-scaping is great! Also, if your interested and not to busy, do you think you would be interested in judging the Halo Olympics since you cant enter?
Great job. I really like how you made like a mini MOC of the map, and that it incorperates some of the main focuses:) And i really understand your introduction. There ARE too many amateur builders on MOCpages that are probably 8 years old and ONLY play Halo because their older brother did or something. I think your MOC is excellent, It would look a little better if you added a vehicle in there somewhere (even if it isn't your own design), but overall this build encaptured the meaning of a MOC. Great job!
Dude, that's an awesome build. Nice work. It may not be a full diorama, but it still is excellent. If you threw a Warthog or a Mongoose in there, it would make it even better.
@MC Double B :D: No, the Blood Gulch/Coagulation/Hemorrhage map was not in Halo 3. Instead, Halo 3 had a map called Valhalla, which looked a little like the Blood Gulch/Coagulation/Hemorrhage maps.
Awesome build! I really like how this isnt your typical Halo Moc and that it isnt overcrowded with figs, and vehicles like what you usually see, so nobody should have a problem with this Halo one! Plus you could have put any different colored figs and call it sci-fi. (I rarely play the games so Im not familiar with this one). Well thats all I have, great build and Id love to see more! 5/5 - J.
Who cares if it's a Halo MOC? As long as it is purist and it looks like this, it's fine by me. I don't even play Halo, so my opinion shouldn't matter when it comes to accuracy of characters. It's a great looking MOC anyway, being Halo just gives it a more specific theme than Sci-Fi.
