Barad Dur WIP 2: Towers and another wall
So this is as far as Iíve gotten on BD. Iíve been sick and working, so I havenít had much time. Regardless, this is some good work compared to WIP1. Now that dinky wall is flanked by two round towers, and another wall has come up. The wall isnít done. As you can see the rock work there is mostly temporary, although there are some nice embellishments along the wall. My favorite part is the overlapping towers connected by the bridge. Also, the first curtain wall is started. also, I included the LDD file so that you can download it and get a closer look
About this creation

These are the overlapping towers. They are actually pretty easy to make if you have enough of those large quarter rounds. As seen in the movie, there are two towers of different heights connected by three bridges. I havenít thrown doors on them yet, and I may not because it can end up looking a little to blocky. The best part was I made this section entirely in the air between MN and CA while on vacation.

This is an aerial view of the towers. This shows the width of the walkways. When this is finished I plan on filling in all of the walkways with battalions of orcs and make it a full battle scene. At the bottom you can see how the bricks do not like to line up. This annoys me to no end, but since it is a computer program I canít get it to work out just right

This shot shows the upper portion of the new wall. Most of it that looks boring will be covered by rock, but I still have a cold, so all of my rocks were coming out weird. The only rock that will stay is the lower section. The middle and upper will all be replaced. Here you also see the small towers jutting out from the wall. It seemed like a cool idea and it looks nice. Not movie accurate, but the look good, so they will be staying

This is the lower part of the new wall. Part of this looks similar to the movie, but most of it was just things that ended up looking good enough. The arches are a little too round for my taste, but that can get fixed another time. Or not. My favorite is the little iron cross window.

This is the first curtain wall. It will be surrounded by two others. I started making it and realized it would cover up some of the other portions of the tower, so this is where I decided to cut this section of progress. This section may be totally different next time, but for now this is the direction it is headed

A shot of the entire model, one of its better angles, that is if you donít notice that big blank wall Iím putting in.

This is roughly the movie angle. This is mostly the view I intend to have the finished product aimed for. Also, only two bricks from being seven thousand. Barad Dur really comes in two parts, the base and the tower. This is maybe a fifth of the base section. The outer walls get a bit boring, so this is where I decided to begin and scale from. I now realize my tower is going to be way to skinny, but it is much better proportioned than Babel Dur was. The two minifigs at the lower right portion of the model show some scale, but they are blending in too much. Next WIP should have some Orcs or Haradrim to give a better scale.

Once again, this is not my picture, I do not own it, but I am using it as my guideline and to show you progress. Some of the parts I have finished arenít incorporated into the model just yet. For instance I have the front gate done, and most of the other towers done. Iíve left them out because Iím not there yet, and my computer is struggling as it is. I am working on some other lofty MOCs right now, so this project is getting slowed down. Iím making an imperial city which should be well over 10k bricks by next week, and still expanding. If anyone has any advice on building styles, certain elements theyíd like to see in the model, or any questions comments and concerns, let me know.

Quoting Quentin Uys WOW.....just WOW. A truly stuning build. I would rate this a 100. WOW. Do you think once your done i can use this for The Land of Shadow?
Thanks! And absolutely. I was intending to put this creation, along with a few others that I haven't finished yet, in your group. I just want some more done so that I can put some of Sauron's forces battling the men and elves, like in the seige of Barad Dur. I doubt it will be truly finished for a while, and even then, I may have to segment it, as my computer is struggling with it now while it is barely started.
