About this creation

This ambulance, which is not based on a particular prototype, was built during the summer of 2004. It took approximately 3 weeks to build the exterior and interior due to the difficulties of creating a 7 stud wide engine compartment, 6 stud wide cab, and 8 stud wide transport compartment. It also took an additional 3 weeks to design the drive-train and engine.

The rear doors open with the use of an extra hinge on the body which can be seen on the green panelling just rear to the rear wheel. The side door opens with the use of a hinge which slides on a track built from half-panels.

Interior is fully detailled down to the ambu-bag (not visible), monitor, and heater/air conditioner (to the right of the monitor on the forward bulkhead).

The engine compartment contains a four cylinder piston engine, which is not very visible in this photograph; the pistons move when the ambulance is in motion.

The drive-train which translates the rotational motion of the rear axle to the engine compartment. The undersides of the pistons can be seen between the front wheels. The 1 x 1 plate and 1 x 1 tile at the front of the drive train are set at 45 degree offsets from one another to push the pistons up at different times.

The ambulance was exhibited at Brickfest 2004 (Washington D.C.).
