The Hard Knocks Gang members have been busy brainstorming on a future project and decided we needed an old fashioned MOC-off!
About this creation
*Note: this MOC-off is between the members of the Hard Knocks Gang and is not open to the public.*
The task: build a statue that would be found in a monster cemetery, freestanding or for the top of a tomb. Maximum base of 8x8 with no height restrictions; overhang is fine.
Our fellow VirtuaLUG members will be judging the entries for us and the winner will have a special part in our future project, so stay tuned!
We've also created a group to consolidate all of our gang related MOCs, so come on over, join the group and follow along! The School of Hard Knocks
The Angel of Death

My first ideas revolved around CubeDudes, but every monster imaginable has been done and I wanted something original.

Though I dabbled with other monster ideas, my mind kept coming back to the Grim Reaper, or something Reaper-esque.

Once I finished the head, I made a few attempts at a hood but felt the exposed skull just looked better.

When you Google 'cemetery statues' you get a lot of angels, so what better than a skeleton angel for a monster cemetery?

Of course, the grounds keepers are going to have there hands full keeping this pack of unruly coyotes at bay...
Fourth Dimension Commentary: There you have it, my entry for the MOC-off. Thank you in advance to our V-LUGer mates for helping us out with this and good luck to my Hard Knock brothers (and sister) on their entries!

How come I never wrote a comment? That is strange - I know I enjoyed this one very much, especially the last picture with the clever TP joke. Your style always amazes me. |

I resisted commenting on this until all four of you had posted, but I do love it mate. I agree with Mark on the slightly Tim Burtonesque look of the skull, but it still does creepy for me, especially the first, moody photo. great choice, really well executed. Well done, I shall post my vote in the group.... |

O.K. Hans, I sent you an email about that question I asked earlier. If it didn't go through, let me know and I'll get my ideas to you some other way. After which you and the gang can tear them apart for your fun and frivolity! |

So if you guys are the only ones allowed to compete who's doing the judging? I can't wait to see how this turns out although I think the final pic already says it all! More importantly though, can one become a full fledged member of "...The Gang" or am I blowing smoke up my arse?
Our VirtuaLUG brethren will be judging them for us.
As for being a member, I'm afraid we have standards. LMAO! Seriously though, it's not the first time expansion has come up, but we've decided 'The Gang' is what it is. That being said, could you shoot me an e-mail so we can converse? Address is on my homepage. Thanks!~H |

Love this design. Something Jack Skellington-esque about it. Wouldn't be suprised to see himt come to life and break into some dark, melodramatic ballad about him actually being a nice guy who's socially shunted, and misunderstood.
Reminds you that much of Chris, does he? =) ~H |

I am I the only person who realized that this is nearly an exact replica of the grim reaper statue gravestone seen in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire???
Alexander Garcia did mention that, but it's not an exact replica; the statue in question was hooded. I had to Google it after you're comment because it actually had no influence on the piece (maybe subconsciously, as I have seen the film). I think I was more influenced by my wife's Son's of Anarchy sweatshirt...LOL! Thanks!~H |

This is perfect. I struggled to stop mine from looking like just a creature on a box and make it actually look like a statue, but you have the discipline to hold back on the bells and whistles and reduce the form down to something that looks very much like it has been carved out of stone. Not to mention it is just down right creepy too. Perfect fit for our upcoming project. I see a great future for this little beauty ;) |

A great bit of Lego sculpture. I like the shaft of the scythe and the clever toilet roll trhowing effect. The best bit is Death's skull, which is so simply done but incredibly effective & expressive. Brilliant. |

A bit somber but an excellent MOC very detailed even though it is monotone! So what's wrong with a somber color? Could you check out my WINTER CHAPEL it has a statue of Saint Michael: http://www.mocpages.com/moc.php/248685
and can you check out my step-by-step instructions on how to build it!?!: http://www.mocpages.com/moc.php/268584
Unfortunately it's on a 8x7 base! I can always make it 8x8! If you think it is worth it! And can you look at: Frank & Gus Statue Carvers - Twin Brother Sculptors that can be found at: http://www.mocpages.com/moc.php/268207 And the statue of St. Anthony Abbot all by itself at: The FESTA ITALIANA gets a statue and a name: The FEAST OF ST. ANTHONY ABBOT! at: http://www.mocpages.com/moc.php/268195 again it's unfortunate he's on an 8x5 base! |
