The A4 "hyena" Self Propelled Artillery piece, with a 152mm howitzer.
About this creation
Artillery guns are useless in certain situations. They need to be towed, then in order to fire they have to be set up. To move, they have to be dismantled, hooked up to the limber, and towed away, which is slow and leaves the gunners open for enemy fire in an advance.
Self Propelled artillery provides the supporting firepower, and can be moved easily, and, does not need to be towed, set up or anything else. LTC saw this, and decided to try and create a tracked artillery piece.
They took the Wolf tank's chassis, stripped it down, then worked from scratch. They strengthened it to support the recoil from a heavy howitzer, they removed the controls for the turret, and replaced it with a 138mm howitzer. They then put armour around the gun to protect the gunner and loader. However, this wasn't good enough for the DC, so they removed the 138mm and replaced it with a 145mm howitzer, which was still too small. So, they put in a 152mm howitzer, which, was perfect.
After some changes to the armour and the gun, allowing it to fold down, the A4 "Hyena" was born.
Armed with a 152mm Howitzer, than can fire High Explosive, Bunker Busters or shrapnel shells.
Can also be fitted with smoke dispensers, flares or a machine gun.
It's called the Hyena as it's engine "laughs" when it's idle.
Left side. It uses a Wolf MK4 Tank Chassis.
The breech of the gun.
As high as it can shoot.
As low as it can shoot. The gun is actually sitting on the rest bar. When moving, this is how the Hyena would look.
The loader loading a shell with the gunner waiting to pull the handle and fire that thing into someone's house.
Ready to rain 152mm High Explosive on some unlucky SPA soldiers...
Another unmistakeable DC MOC Tim! This artillery tank is a seemless addition to the DC universe. Theres just one thing you didnt explain though, what are the big gray auger wheels at the front of the tank for? Tripping mines?
