Recreating the ambiance of the 80's
About this creation

Pharos is the 14th in a series of MOC's intended to recreate the ambiance of the 80's.

The Pharos is an accompaniment for The Wharf, and is another set based around medieval shipping. There's probably a little bit of 6265 Sabre Island in the mix as well.

I wantted the tower to look like it was built on a rocky outcrop, so the initial layer is a base of dark grey slopes, this also give the advantage of raising the tower up enough to make the jetty possible.

The tower itself is fairly simple, 4444 panels form the walls and a Castle Turret Top 4 x 8 x 2 1/3 forms the front of the roof and that's about it, it doesn't get much simpler. A flaming beacon tops off the tower.

Story: Not much. It's just part of the wider medieval life.

Playability: The boat is what provides the playability, it allows the soldiers to come and go, supplies to be loaded and offloaded and could even attack the tower if your imagination lent that way.

Build-ability: The base of dark grey slopes was a bit fiddly, but an overhead view in the instructions to locate the key pieces would make that step simpler. Everything else is just stacked on top. ABS version shown below

Cost: At 102 bricks and 3 minifigs the brick count is on a par with 6265 Sabre Island and similar to the Blacksmith Shop and 6041 Armour Shop which are it's castle contemporaries.

Consistency: The neon orange flame is an anachronism, they didn't arrive until the Dragon Knights in 1993.

A simple set, quickly executed but with enough in it to make it desirable. I'll try to continue the medieval shipping theme as rivers were a key part of medieval trade and I know that there's some good source material that I can draw on.
