My entry for round 1 of the 2012 MocOlympics. This year's categories are songs. I chose the classic Beach Boys' song Surfin' U.S.A.
My entry depicts the typical USA beach. A surf shop is at the head of the beach and there are several diverse characters populating this sandy stretch. I'll give an explanation for each figure, so hold tight. :P
This MOC raised (pun intended) a bit (very small bit) of a challenge. It's not every day I build looong, raised, MOCs. It was a fun little challenge, and I'm considering building some MOCs this length and width in the future. I'm pretty sure this is the first MOC built this odd size. I could see a big trend coming out of this. So people, start building.
The surf shop is headed by two cool dudes. They'll greet you with a, "Hey dude! Gonna go ride the waves? Yo, man, you need this preserver. Don't want to drown." :)
As I said earlier, some diverse people populate this beach. There IS an explanation for each one. From left to right:
The lifeguard: There ALWAYS is a lifeguard on duty at the beach. And why shouldn't there be? They save lives, right?
The kid playing in the sand: At the beach, it's hard not to step on one of these kids. Their sandcastles may need a little adult help, but they usually do fine.
Roman/spartan/aztec: You've seen them. There's always some odd bathing suits at the beach. And this guy is no exception.
Surfer: His bleach-blond hair flashes in the sunlight as he rides the waves. But right now, the waves aren't very big.
Old farmer-tanned man: Farmer-tans adorn lots of people. Me included. But we've all seen the old guys sitting in the sun with their awesome tans.
If you're one of these diverse characters. Please take no offense. You should be happy to be featured in my MOC.:P
Up on the pavement, there are more characters to be explained.
Motorcycle dude: Sorry, no motor vehicles on this road. This guy got left behind. But luckily he's got some nice binoculars to spot out the swimmers.
Surf shop owners: These guys will sell you just about anything. Even if it doesn't work. And that girl is about to walk away with a brand-old harpoon gun.
Bicycle cop: He keeps the beach safe from dangerous things. Whether it be broken glass, or walruses.
Had a fun time building this sign. Even if it is half the size of the building, I think it gets the job done.
Cause I love to have some forced perspective shots in each MOC.
Thanks for checking out my entry. And thanks to Chris Phipson and the rest of the judges for doing this!
I'll see you in round two. Hopefully...
