Door Technique
About this creation
So after I posted the Nemesis, I had a few requests to show the technique that I used for the doors. Here is the step-by-step for the technique. I took quick photos without really setting up any lighting or anything so the pics are not the highest quality. I apologize about that, but even with the blurriness, this should give you a good idea of how to make it work. Feel free to ask any questions in the comments section, Iíll answer them as best I can.

This here is the basic setup for under the floor. This entire thing is not a prerequisite to make it work, just the area inside the red rectangle. It is important to note the gap inside the blue circle, though. That must be there. Youíll see why in a moment.

Okay, start with these pieces: two 1x4 plates, one 1x2 plate, one 1x1 plate, and a 1x1 plate with clip.

Put those pieces together to look like this.

Add it to your floor where you see the red rectangle.

For door and the inner workings of the locking mechanism, youíll need these pieces: two 1x6 tiles, (totally for aesthetics, not a necessity to the build), two technic Ĺ pins, one 2x4 plate, three 1x2 bricks, two 1x3 bricks, two 2x3 plates, four 1x1 technic bricks, two technic liftarms with five holes, two long technic pins, and one 6-stud-long bar. The red rectangles are around the bricks that are going to go together in the coming steps.

Put the long pins into the liftarms.

Add a 1x1 technic brick on each end of the pin.

The Ĺ pins go in the other end of the liftarms.

Put the bricks together like this. The set in the middle goes on top of the 2x4 plate.

Put the bar through the Ĺ pins like this. The red circle is to show you the short length of bar that has to be left protruding out of the end of the liftarm.

Add the liftarm portion to the brick portion like this.

Add the two 1x6 tiles to the front like this. This is just for aesthetics. If you want to block the gaps, this is an effective way to do it.

Add the rest of the door. With the plates on the bottom of the door and the top of the door added, it will stabilize the lower part of the door.

Add the door to the floor section like this.

Add the floor.

Now itís all held together and there is just enough length left in the liftarm to extend out and allow the door to lay down.

Absolutely! I promise that if I don't want someone taking my ideas and applying them to their own, I won't post it. But there really isn't a situation where I wouldn't want to help. You may even be able to take my idea and make it better. I believe that this is the type of stuff that keeps the community going. Besides, I can't imagine that I am the first to discover this.

Wow! Not only is it a low space using door, that opens, it also clicks into place! It solves all the problems of when you want something to stay up, and it keeps falling down! If you have a spare moment, would you please check this out?

A wonderfully clever bit of design and inovation. It solves that problem of getting the door away fron the wall/ship/doorway so that it can fold out so neatly and it locks shut too! It must be a very satisfying "click"! I will comment on the main MOC when I've time to take it in. This feature stood out though as a great bit of technical creativity: can't wait to get an opportunity to include in a build of my own :)
