Valhalla Air Force Base also doubles up as a landing facility to receive atmosphere-capable capital ships. The facility is located next to the Valhalla Missile Range, where surface to air and anti-orbital missiles are deployed as a part of Earth Force's land-based installations.
Here, we witness the bitter homecoming of the Proxima (KINDLY SEE "Not our finest moment..."), after her disastrous first contact with the Targans a week earlier. Upon touch down, Proxima's captain was swiftly relieved of his duty.
About this creation
A close inspection of the lower right of the picture reveals a vertical launch corridor, hinting at the hangar facilities underground. Apparently, is has been rumoured that the hardened underground facilities measure 4 times the size of what is seen on the surface. Rumour has it that the Office Of Alien Relations has its headquarters in the lowest levels of this facility....this no doubt explains why the Proxima was ordered to touch down at Valhalla.
A test-fire of the latest Spiker MkIII surface-to-orbit missile....
Here, we see the Earth Force Destroyer, Proxima, taxi-ing to a stationary hover above Valhalla, while awaiting final touch-down instructions. Meanwhile, platoons of marines have been assembled and are awaiting the arrest of Captain Hawkings of the Proxima. Although not commonly expected, marines are a precaution in the event that the crew starts to display sympathetic outbursts during the arrest of their captain. This marks the end of the captain's career and his fate now lies in the hands of the spacefleet JAG.
Shortly after the diembarkation of Proxima's non-essential crew, the destroyer vessel is routed to another landing zone for debriefing. Trailing behind the Proxima, is the Nightingale, one of 20 Earth Force medical frigates in low Earth Orbit, with severely wounded Targan VIPs on board. While unloading her delicate cargo, her other sister ships maintain a holding pattern in orbit and are systematically routed to various landing fields around the Valhalla Sector.
