I was asked to do three different product logos, this is the first of the three. I used 4 48x48 baseplates (~30" x 30") with light grey plates on top and covered that with my 1x1 rounds. Approx. 28,000 Legos were used. I burned approx. 100+ hours (much of that involved planning and mounting/framing. Framing is quite the pain, but necessary considering the size and nearly 20lb weight).
As with the "Scream" mosaic, I used 3 layers of 1x1 translucent rounds (except for the product name which is opaque white). I wanted the logo and the product name to really pop, so I muted the background by making the top layer clear which gives a hazy glaze to the underlying binary numbers. For the outer edge, I made the matting 1 plate level lower on the outer 3 studs and faded from clear to a muted red going into the outer frame. Some of the binary numbers spell out of the name of the product and one set of binary has my initials for my signature... quite geeky, eh?
The next two will have similar features (same frame, same positioning of the logo/product name and a matting that fades in from the edge.
