Tank Engine Supreme (Prototype)
About this creation

This creation was inspired by a bootleg toy sold in various market places/shopping districts. I searched around my area for the set but it seems no one sells them anymore. Instead, I remembered that Duplo made some Thomas sets and found the pieces I needed to make this.

I started with the body from the green lego base up to the heads. Originally the Thomas face was supposed to be in the middle, however James' head piece stuck out too much on the side and wasn't symmetrical. Thomas and Percy's were the same size and I felt it was best to just use them as the shoulders. The arms were a little difficult. Duplo and Lego bricks don't seem connect as much as I thought, but good enough. I put some bricks inside the "cabs" so I can put ratchet arm joints inside and some holed bricks to stick in the hand and a drill piece. That and a few random pieces to hold everything together as possible. Some parts are still loose but the extra pieces help.

The legs were a bigger challenge. At first I started with one ratchet joint per leg, but it turns out the body was REALLY heavy, that they weren't strong enough to support it. Two joints per leg worked a little better, but even with all the unexpected weight, I had to find ways to distribute or support it with some thresholds of sorts. Slope bricks near the knees and some 1-2x4 bricks under the thighs keep it from bending over too far, and a flat 2x4 brick under the back of each foot so the whole thing doesn't fall backwards.

And there we have it: A giant steam-powered giant ready for action. I feel I can still add a few more for the bare-boned legs, but I ran out of good pieces and ideas for the moment. For now, I think this current design it gives it character. transformers
